sweet, hope you enjoy the gig.

  • I would be at Guilfest watching The Wonder Stuuff tonight but had a date that cancelled. My life sucks at times! Mind as I saw them In Leamington Wednesday and rode 115 miles home yesterday not sure even one day of a festival would have been a plan today!

Was that at the new venue? I've heard it's meant to be really good, although having genuinely big bands play in the area (not including festivals at Long Marston airport) is a bit of a culture shock.

Do you know I cant remember what it was called. Was an old building (guildhall possibly) but had clearly had a lot of money spent whilst keeping it's character. Quite a few names playing there judging by the posters. A lot of my old mates from Brum were there and said it was easy to get too so hopefully it will prosper. Weird being in a town where everywhere was shut by midnight though!

I think it's called the Civic Centre or something? I've not been around Leamington for a long time, I've just heard about it from some mates.

Given that it's Leamington, I think that everything would have been shut for at least an hour by midnight.

Yes I think that was it. We found a pub opposite but I think they were pissed at a crowd of us making them work till late! We struggled to find kebab or pizza having given up on the curry idea as it was clear the whole town was in bed.

My recollection of Leamington was that it was a bit twee and decidely posh. Was good to see the spoons was full of old alkies by the time we got there for breakfast!

It's not that posh, but it's funny when you describe yourself from being form "just outside Birmingham" and people not believing you because you don't sound like Noddy Holder.

  • I am originally from the mean streets of Royal Leamington Spa.....amazing we really have no accent to speak of considering its so close to Cov and Bham (phew)

edit: just read the thread, can't believe wonderstuff played Lspa, I used to follow them around the country in the nineties, would have loved them to play at home

  • I find the fact that Cannibal Corpse played Leam more amazing.

I still really want that John Tomac replica that (word on the street) John Aitken Cycles still have kicking around.

  • It shows how long I've been away, I wandered down Church Terrace the other day when visiting my dad and was dismayed to find that Norton Cycles on Church Terrace had turned into a hairdressers, apparently years ago. I got my Raleigh Winner from there in 1984, I remember it like it was yesterday!

  • I never even knew there was a bike shop there. It was always just Broadribbs, John Aitkens and that little place just down the Radford Road from JA.

I did my work experience in Broadribbs when I was 14.

  • i am very old......it was somewhat of an institution in Leamington, my dad got his bikes from them and his dad before him, shame its gone

  • I wouldn't fret ... Kylesa were 'ok' at UCL, the vocals sucked.

more interested in CBP... they're aces

Back in 2004, the then Electric Wizard drummer Justin Greaves (also of Iron Monkey, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine) started recording songs and soundscapes he'd had in his head for several years using primitive recording techniques. Encouraged by good friend (and Mogwai bassist) Dominic Aitchison those ideas would become the bones of Crippled Black Phoenix. Other great compadres followed, Panthiest members Andy Semmens and Kostas Panagiotou, Nial McGaughey of 3D House of Beef and -(16)- amongst others and solo folk songwriter Joe Volk, who also fronts critically acclaimed heavy rock band Gonga, all stepped up to bring a variety of influences and skills to complete the line-up.
