  • Whilst I remember if we travel down in a group of more than 4 it will mean we can get group save tickets thus making the train down cheaper. If we go to Liverpool St then it may be cheaper to get group save one day travel cards for about £13 each.

  • Although we'll probably talk about it tonight, what time are people thinking of heading down? I'm not riding tonight but will be down around 8.30/9 for food.

  • camelback, don't you mean a sexyback?

    Fixed.

  • yoyoyoyoo....im going to take the 5pm train to landan as i need to arrive there a littla bit earlier.

Do people want to come slightly earlier or shud i fuck off and go on my own and you guys catch up, saving some dough would be nice though

  • I'm up for heading down a bit later. Not sure what time, aim to get there for 8ish? If people have plans then text / call - Zero Seven Nine Four Zero 126261.

  • OK overnighters, here is the plan. Getting the 1832 train to liverpool street.
In order to take advantage of a group travelling together discount please aim to get to the station for 6ish aiming to buy tickets about 6.20 leaving us time to buy stuff from m&s.
If you're coming and know you'll be late text Matt^ or me (oh doubleseven six four 531558) and we can get you a ticket. If you come late and don't tell us expect to buy your own ticket!

  • is no one coming with me at 5?

  • **There are works today and tomorrow on the undeground which may affect the livepool st train.

I'd advise the kings cross and the extra 2 miles cycle if you don't want delays or train cancellations.**

  • that should only affect the underground. there are no alerts on the **direct **liverpool st train. If you want to get to liverpool st via kings x and underground then you may be affected. we're not taking the underground, you can't take bikes on it anyway :)

  • no, there is a notice on the national rail website when you quote a ticket to liverpool street.

    it says

The following incidents may affect this journey

Engineering work on the London Underground on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July 2009

because this one goes a bit deeper into the city there could be cutbacks on the rails and ques

You definitely should have said hello, we're a nice bunch!

  • Yeh should of done. How was it?

  • Personally, not the best ride I've ever done as I didn't finish :(

I think the others had a great time!

dude it's ok, i think you did the right thing. From what ive understood you weren't feeling quite well at one point. If something is not right it's worth not to risk in the name of your own health, seriously.

It wasn't exactly exciting when we got to dunwich anyway. Cold, rocky, sandy, sweaty shit food and then rain as well.

    For what?

But i think just the whole experience of riding, whether 10 or 100 miles, is just worth it for seeing such a community of cyclists and the size of the event. Just seeing endless numbers of cyclists overruling those twisty country roads with twinckly red lights in the distance did it for me.

Being a part is everything, the rest isn't important.

  • Me, Matt P, Hayden, Devon and Barney got train down to Liverpool St and cycled up to London Fields to meet Eddie.
Set off about 8.50 so we had plenty of lights to follow out of London, which seemed to take forever. At Epping took a wrong turn by following time-triallists with GPS. Ooops! Emergency navigating got us back on track. Dark now and at the front and overtaking other riders I managed to loose the group. Stopped and waited for a bit but no sign. (turns out they were fixing barney's punctures) perhaps they'd gone past?
So set off at pace and got caught by a fast group. Hung on for a way but lost them at a junction. Had some nice alone time in the dark - turned lights off for a bit to enjoy moonlight!
Caught up with a guy doing reasonable pace at Finchingfield and cycled together to the feed stop. Had pasta salad and coffee and went outside and met the others, minus Barney and Matt, who had just turned up. Massive queue at feed by now so decided to head off after brief stop for water.
Moving quickly now we caught up with some experienced looking guys who were fair shifting too. Did a good distance with them but unfortunately they seemed to be following their own route and we lost them as we followed signposted directions.
As it began to get light we cruised through narrow country lanes in the direction of the orange glow. Finally signs for Dunwich! Speed increased and we managed to get to the beach just in time for sunrise at 4.35am. Breakfast at the cafe (beans on toast FTW!) and beach snoozing followed.
Barney turned up at 7ish minus Matt who it turns out has his own story to tell!

Starting to rain we decided to leave for the station at Ipswich. For me this was the hardest part of the ride especially psyching up to set off in the rain. Which soon stopped as we left Dunwich! Made the 11.02 to Cambridge after navigating one-way system.

Got home and fell asleep on sofa watching tennis and drinking can of Tyskie but woke up in time to see the final set. Legs tired today.

  • matt's legs!

  • Was a good experience, even getting a double puncture from a massive pot-hole. Glad I packed two spare tubes! Other cyclisits also fell foul of the pot-hole and Eddie went down to warn people to avoid it, as he came back to help with the puncture someone fell off after hitting the whole.
As Eddie said seeing the whole road lit up in front of you with flashing red lights makes for a surreal experience, like some cheap ass moving disco.
After the punctures Hayden wrapped himself in a thin blue light making him easier to spot flying off into the night and meant Matt P and I could follow the others. By the time we hit the feed station they were well on their way. Mr Power needed recharging as he looked like death cooled down. The rest of my journey was a mix of full on speed and passing showers. Was glad to finish and get to the train.

  • Sounds amazing! Def doing it next year!!

  • cool pics! anymore from anyone?
