instinct says its the made in china thing for sure. nike moved some of their manufacturing from vietnam and thailand to china and the new shoes are shitty. original vans were always a super skinny fit. perfect for better board feel and control when skating. really nice shoe. they have gone super mainstream though recently no? really taken off. i wonder if that has anything to do with it, and if they are purposely wider to be more like a nike 6.0...also everywhere.
The country wont effect the sizing. There will have been a decision to change the last probably based on feedback form the shops or to be more like a competitor.
Footwear companies have really been squeezed for margin over the last year or so which means some big volume styles will have gone to cheaper factories and used cheaper materials. Don't always think that made in china = worse quality though.

Of course not, factories make stuff upon the requirements of the brand.
But it seems my vans are SO different that they are almost a different model entirely.

got these DC A250 s for the boy, US10 / UK9; they're too small for him, would suit a UK8
anyone want them?

When it comes to NIKE, at least, believe me, it makes a difference!
All the ones I've got 'made in Thailand/Vietnam' can't even be put together with the 'made in China' ones.... fact. Every single bit of the shoe feels different. i.e. For those who know the AF1 'insideout', I've got a pair made in China (it's actually my only Chinese pair of NIKE)... may have worn them no more than 10 times, all the side panels feel like they are coming loose at the stitching, they just feel rubbish. -

if it says 'nike' and 'made in china' beware
