  • I may well be asking a stupid question, are all TT thumb shifters friction and index? Can i use SRAM TTlevers with a campag rear mech...etc.

  • i'm pretty sure you can use SRAM with Shimano, but not campag. the indexing is slightly off with sram and campag.

  • You can use a shimano cassette with SRAM, but not a campag, therefore I'd say that SRAM and shimano should work fine together but avoid combining either with campag.

Or just stick to one brand for everything!

  • Looking on various sites on the SRAM TT shifters, they're indexed, only Shimano/SRAM cassettes I'm afraid.

  • Thanks guys....love campag....but do they do TT shifters?

  • Just avoid campag, job done.

Why use it apart from the bling factor?

  • meeh....because i like it.....and why put Jap stuff on a wop bike?!!!!:)

  • Get sram stuff, it's light, sram is so much lighter than campag, it's stupid. Campag is for cock rubbers.

  • ahhh is that what was in my hand......

  • get sram stuff, it's light, sram is so much lighter than campag, it's stupid. Trials riding is for cock rubbers.

    fixed

  • Campag looks pretty but the fundamental ergonomics of their ergo levers are, not to put to fine a point on it, rubbish.

  • meh works for me....thats all i give a shit about....never been to big on the "fundamental ergonomics" just like stuff that works......

  • Which is exactly my point! Shimano Sora has the same shifting mechanism as campag- but better due to the location of the thumb shifter being forward enough to actualy use.

I run ultegra shitters on my gearie and it's quite nice being able to change both up and down without moving my hand position.

  • But why would i want to change from Campag to Shimano....my hands work fine on Campag levers, no need to move my hands....what suits one person, may not aways work for another!

  • You have Jeremy Beadle hands I think. I can reach both fine.

  • me?

  • I think pifko is aiming his comment at me.

Pifko- I challenge you to a hand off!

  • Kinky

  • If I have to be

  • I have 4 record and 1 Centaur, love 'em; TT levers as well:

  • Shimano 9 works on a 1:2 pull ratio, Sram's 9 mtb esp is 1:1, so sram and shimano mechs and shifters arn't interchangeable there (not 100% sure on the sram road group-sets though?). The cassette spacing is however. Campag wont work with shimano or sram unless using friction shifting or running 9sp campag levers with an 8spd shimano cassette and mech. Anyone else confused yet? :s

Campagnolo make 10s TT levers, that can be modified back to 9spd.

Campag 10spd spacing is 2.42 mm, shimano and sram is 2.35mm spacers. Cog thicknesses differ also campag is 1.7mm shimano and sram run 1.6mm thick cogs.

9spd spacing: Shimano is 2.56mm and sram is 2.54, campag is 2.8mm, however campag 9spd sprockets are 1.75mm thick apposed to shimano's 1.76mm and srams 1.8mm thick.

Interestingly i run a Campag C9 chain on my 9spd shimano ATB with no problems.

So theirs some measurements for the anoraks.

  • I have a 7-speed Shimano cassette working perfectly with Campag Mirage rear mech and down tube shifters

You can use a shimano cassette with SRAM, but not a campag, therefore I'd say that SRAM and shimano should work fine together but avoid combining either with campag.

Or just stick to one brand for everything!

There speaks someone who hasn't tried to use the Sora thumb shifter in the drops

  • Another campag versus shimano debate...if peeps can argue this question as much as they do it's not a wonder Middle East peace is hard to come by...

Of course! If we all talked about solving middle east problems, it would happen.
