I'm sure it didn't help but pretty sure he wanted to run him off/wide.

Oh I'm sure he did, but that's not exactly a new play in the F1 playbook. Hamilton done the exact same thing in Canada this year and Austin last(?) year.
He was on the inside and if he had slowed the car in time, he would've held position and Hamilton most likely would've passed on the next straight.
Point I'm getting at is that I don't think Rosberg intended to t-bone Hamilton and take him out of the race. He was on the back foot after a bad exit out of turn 1, took the defensive line on the less clean side of the track and was unable to stop in time due to that and the braking issue.
I don't think it was premeditated, intentional or malicious, he simply broke too late. Which is an easy thing to do with a recent brake issue I imagine.

Hopefully this'll back fire on Hamilton and he's the loser in team orders.
-
• #5655
I'm gonna be devils advocate here...
Hamilton appears to be given a handicap every race by his own team for the German team win?
They slowed his pit stops...
Gave him slower tires...
Stop me if I'm wrong. :oP
As for outbreaking the corner, puurleeease.
That was Schumacher and Hill... history repeated.

• #5656
Slower tyres? The tyres Rosberg ended up with were all he had left. The tyre Hamilton was in was the right one.

• #5657
There's a difference between devil's advocate & tin-foil hat brigade ;)
Mercedes want 1-2's, end of.
The super-soft was the tyre to be on, Rosberg had no fresh ones left so had to make do with what he had. Which were pretty much completely gone by the last lap.
If he's braking at the limit of grip, and started turning for the corner, he'dsimply lock up and go into Hamilton with a fair bit more speed than he actually did.
I think your Schumacher-Hill comment is pretty disrepectful to Schumacher & Hamilton! =P

If they go back to team orders I'm sure it'll be the same as McLaren team orders in the Hakkinen-Coulthard era.
Race until the last pit stop, then hold station.
I doubt we'll see Ferrari's Alonso-Massa style team orders at Mercedes.

• #5659
Toto indicated this was pretty likely by the next race.

• #5660
I just think Rosburg is in Hamilton's shadow.
Too many times now I have seen petty blocking.
Schumacher was a brilliant driver no doubt.
But a sore loser all the same. #JustSayin

Maybe for the distance but not for raw pace.
-
• #5662
I largely agree but in those examples, did Nico have his car in front?
-
• #5663
Even if Rosemacher had brakes on the edge then he should have been even more courteous to his team mate after fucking up the apex.
Second place is better than fourth. End.

• #5664
schumacher always broke the other guys car when he went for those type of manoeuvres
nico hasn't learnt the art yetso silverstone this weekend, got my dad tickets for his 80th, just wondering what the searches are like on the gates and what sort of things can you bring in ? 6 pack or 8 pack of beer ok ? camera's etc should be no problem right ?
will they go through my backpack ? thinking about taking a tent abnd sleeping bag for saturday night
what sort of facilities are there on saturday night ? food beer live music fairground ?
not that i have been to le mans, but that looks like a festival on wheels. will this weekend match that ? -
• #5665
Agreed, he broke too late, and the issue was compounded by failing brakes, so even if he was overly defensive he should've held his hands up and done the classy thing in admitting his error instead of blaming his team mate, wonder if he'll review his standpoint, especially given the marshals laid the blame firmly at his feet...

Footage clearly shows Rosberg did not even attempt to turn enough to make the corner. He turned enough to give the illusion of trying to make the corner, but much more lock was required from there to be successful, and everyone knew it (including the stewards).
Hamilton used to bully Rosberg when both were starting from the front row, and Lewis would often be too aggressive in passing. Lately it seems Rosberg is having none of it, so if Lewis runs him close or tight, he's willing to teach Lewis that they could both lose their cars if he crowds him.
Lewis is still the better and faster driver. I believe Rosberg only matched Shumacher and Lewis by directly copying their timesheets, and improving where they were faster than him. I doubt Schumacher ever copied Rosberg's, and I doubt Lewis would either. In fact latterly, Lewis has had to sell Rosberg dummies, as he knew Rosberg was copying all he did, so Lewis would sacrifice his optimum lines and only use them at the very end.

Rosberg's mind has gone when it comes to Hamilton, he's incapable of racing wheel to wheel with him with out stepping over the line. I feel a bit sorry for him to be honest, despite being a big Hamilton fan. it's the teams fault to be honest a 3 times champ should have the same billing in team as a long time also ran like Rosberg. They dont don't need team order they need to give Hamilton lead driver status.

Is it really good for Mercedez to walk 1-2 in every race? It looks good in the history books but is boring to watch. Surely that finish could be spun into good PR if Toto wasn't throwing his own toys out of the pram.
I'm sure there's a bit of desire at Mercedez to have a German driver winning.

• #5670
If team orders are to be installed ( hope not it can be boring to watch) then surely it has be in Rosberg's favour, he's the most points.
If it goes in H's favour that'd be a massive insult to R wouldn't it. -
• #5671
Indeed, but you could argue it should be in Hamiltons favour as he's the current world champ.
-
• #5672
^ Don't bank on it. :o$
-
• #5673
Wasn't it Hakkinen and Coulthard who were given the opportunity to race but team orders came into play after the final pit stop?
That was probably during a time when tyre deg and doing the 'undercut' weren't as critical as now. It would lead to some odd strategies.
-
• #5674
One point now separates Nico and Lewis. Game on.
-
• #5675
Poor Nico. Do u think he feels like a pantomime villain yet?
To be fair, it's made more difficult when your brakes cease functioning properly.
