So basically it was Hamilton's own fuck up that the team took the blame for.
-
• #5029
I don't know why they don't just ban him from F1 entirely, then everyone would be happy.
-
• #5030
Calm down, fanboy. Just because not everyone's deeply in love with Hamilton, doesn't mean it's pet lip time.
-
• #5031
Nobody has to love him, but the f*cking sniping is becoming f*cking boring.
He's widely regarded as the outright fastest driver, and by a few, maybe the best driver (I still think Alonso has the edge, but is losing that) and yet, even by people that should know better, its still a blame game. For his lady (ex), his music interests, his hair, his moods, everything. Its honestly beyond pathetic.

So suggesting that Hamilton might have had a hand in his own downfall at Monaco, based upon a news report containing radio transmissions, is 'fucking sniping'? Like I said, calm down fanboy. That level of touchiness isn't healthy. A failure to swoon over everything he does is not 'fucking sniping'. Unless your fanboy status means you think that he's above criticism, which does appear to be the case.

He queried the call to stay out, which doesn't seem completely unreasonable. Someone in the team should still have had the information and authority to tell him pitting was unnecessarily risky.
If he'd demanded to have a new set of tyres, that would be very different.

• #5034
As I've said on numerous occasions, I'm obviously not his biggest fan but he's changed his attitude - so as far as I'm concerned he's alright.
-
• #5035
Exactly! Surely the team should have said non- you haven't got time?
-
• #5036
Yeah, I still maintain it was the team's fault. They had the telemetry...

As Brun and well_is_it have alluded to, other drivers in other races have wanted to come in, but their teams have declined them, and made them stay out. Jenson comes to mind, but I'm sure you all know of others. Team tactics and management are not up to the driver. Where would we be if all drivers came in when they wanted to, and tyres weren't ready, or the pit crew wasn't out? Its a team call. The driver can suggest. So its not truly up to the driver. Mercedes would not make such public (a series of) apologies, if they had made they right calls and their driver was the idiot.
Apart from my much earlier enthusiasm, I have shown no fanboyism towards Lewis, as I realise that he just rubbed people up the wrong way, and his ability didn't matter at all; so I stopped commenting in a positive manner. Instead, I comment on other drivers.
If you need to get back on your horse danstuff, I can get you an extending ladder. No trouble at all.

Conscious irony or self-delusion? Seriously, I'm intrigued to know. Oh, and a quick tip. The high horse thing - you play that card when the other person's taking the moral high ground. Accusing someone of being a fanboy, even if backed up by copious evidence to that effect, is not taking the moral high ground. You might want to rethink your keyboard warrior tactics a bit there.

Like Lewis himself said, they win as a team, they lose as a team.
Sure, the team had the data. Sure, Hamilton should've known you can hold off much faster cars when you're on shit tyres at Monaco (especially considering his love for Senna
They decided to pit, it was the wrong decision, they admit it. Bring on Canada.

When I used to go on PistonHeads, what normally happened to a GP thread is that it had to be locked a day or two after the race finished, as they tended to devolve into shit-slinging matches.

99% of the posters on PistonHeads are total cunts however.

Depends on what part of the forum you're on, some are full of helpful folks, some are full of people who're just there for a willy-waving contest.

That's actually quite funny.
Only ever spent time on PH to trawl the classifieds and read some of the reports about cars and the shed etc.

Absolutely - I'm a Hamilton fan. I think he is pretty good at acknowledging the team in wins, so it seems fair to think of the losses and mistakes in similar terms.

On that, I wonder if that isn't a bit of a double-edged sword - the spectators can't really see tyre quality, and I doubt many drivers' egos are up to being overtaken round Monaco.

Ferrari are looking very strong, and Lotus have clearly turned a corner. Its going to be racy between them and the Williams'.

Qualifying was pretty epic. I didn't expect Lewis to do well, as his practice sessions were not good for him at all. But come qualies, he blew the others away. I was actually really impressed. He hadn't shown that form at all.
For the race, it could be the tightest battle all season for third place. If Vettel can work through the field, by the end of the race he might be there. If not, its Kimi's to lose. But Lotus and Williams will be pushing hard, and they're close. I don't expect much to happen between 1st and 2nd place, but if Ferrari have something in their pocket, Nico will be vulnerable. I'm looking forward to the race.
I read that this morning, hilarious...
