  • Why would he leave a team that has been built around him? Yes he wants to win and if McLaren can't build a competitive car for him to do so then he should hedge his bets elsewhere. When Schumacher joined Ferrari, the cars were absolute dogs. The first W/C he won with them was done in an utter pig of a car. Then the development stage occurred and the rest we all know about. He won his W/C's when his car wasn't the best, but most importantly he won when the Ferrari wasn't even close to being the best.

If he is to stay with McLaren, Lewis is just going to have to suck it up until they've refined the each of the development stages. There's less testing than there has even been - I think Schumacher is up there with Armstrong and Aldrin for miles covered.

I reckon he should just wait and see. Besides, it'll be nice to have a different W/C this season - maybe an Australian.

  • And of course, £100M is a shit-load of money.

  • The musical chairs will be really interesting.

    Webber to join Button
    Hamilton to join Schumacher
Rosberg to Red Bull, joining Vettel

Far from possible? Any other suggestions?

  • I reckon Schumacher will be off.

  • I think he will be hard to jettison. He brings a huge package with him. Rosberg would be the loser. That's how I read it.

  • Schumacher is still "well in" with Ferrari. The Enzo was developed with him in mind and the FXX is to him what the NSX was to Senna and Honda.

He won't go to Ferrari, but I predict that he'll be team boss there at some point.

  • I don't see Schumey having the qualities that make a good team boss. I can just see him telling a driver.......... I can do better than that!

  • Since when have you needed any qualities to be team boss at Ferrari?

  • Has there ever in recent times been a team boss that was a former World Champion driver? No? I'm not surprised. They're too inherently selfish. Just my opinion.

  • There are no decent footballers who have gone on to serious levels of success as managers.

    In recent memory:

    Prost - disaster
    Stewart - worse than Prost

    Very good point ga2g.

Webber / Button is the most likely there I think, but will involve Button moving. Don't forget that McLaren have bankrolled Lewis since the age of eleven, I honestly believe that if it looks remotely possible that he will walk to another team Whitmarsh will be given a healthy retirement package or moved into running the road car division and Ron Dennis will make a controversial return. Have you not noticed that every time in the last couple of seasons Lewis had one of his "media wobbles" the following GP Dennis would have a VERY conspicuous presence in the garage with a VERY stern look on his face; IMO that was not aimed at the golden child but was more a reminder to Whitmarsh as to whose team it was, how much work had gone into choreographing Hamilton's career, and who would be held responsible if things went tits up.

Why would someone with the instincts and ability of Brawn favor Schumacher over Rosberg, no matter how it is dressed up Schumacher will be retiring for good, sooner rather than later, while Rosberg cannot compete with Vettel / Hamilton / Alonso in terms of raw talent he has proved his tenacity and also that he can bring in results when he has a decent car that is suited to, and well set up for, specific tracks. Combine this with the fact that Mercedes' future involvement in F1 as a team is far from guaranteed and therefore Ross Brawn may well find himself running Brawn GP again where Rosberg would be a much more attractive driver as his record this season is infinitely better than that of Schumacher (he has finnished all the races rather than just 2). Also as I have said before Mercedes have already publicly expressed an interest in DiResta, and are the only team to have done this, while it is always possible that it is a smokescreen at this relatively early stage of the season I doubt it.

I would imagine that Rosberg will stay loyal to the team that has provided him with his first win, especially with Brawn at the helm, that and his contract runs until the end of 2013.

  • Personally I can't see anyone from McLaren, Red Bull or Mercedes moving next season. And because of that Alonso won't have anywhere nice to go even if he wanted to. Can't see Renault letting go of either Kimi or Grosjean and again neither really has anywhere nicer to go.

  • What about Kubica?

  • Rowhan has more chance of riding in the TDF than Kubica has of making a comeback in a top team. IF DiResta moves to a big team he may go to Force India.

  • Kubica is more finished than Massa is. Sad, but true.

  • What if McLaran lured Adrian Newey back? You'd have drivers beating the door down.

  • With Whitmarsh fucking things up left, right and centre these days I doubt Newey would want to go back. I also doubt he would have the same control there that he has at Red Bull at the minute.

Agree with these guys, can't see him getting back in unfortunately. It's a great shame as this year's Renault is definitely capable of winning races.

  • Bring back Ron then.

  • It'll be good to see Kubica rallying

  • ...in an auto with one of those knobs on the steering wheel.

  • Red Bull have been told that the design of the floor on their cars is illegal and that they must change it for Canada.

  • It was clearly illegal, as the floor was no longer solid and impermeable. Hahahahahahaha. I will so enjoy Vettel's driving now. :-) Funnily enough, I think that the Red Bulls and the McLarens seem a bit underpowered at the moment, and have been relying on aerodynamic tweeks to stay competitive. Am I wrong here, or does anybody else see it like that also? McLaren need a few more horses, then it will be game on.

By the way, is the Renault the best engine on the grid at the moment?

  • Was idly watching the Manx TT on telly, and as the winner pootled into the winners runoff area, he was stopped and congratulated by Mark Webber. Eh, WTF? Mark, mate, haven't you got a race to be preparing for?

    Nice touch though. :-)

  • ^^ The Mercedes engine in considered the best / most powerful on the grid and the Renault is not far behind but the Renault offers quite a bit in tuneability and 'drivability' so I doubt that's their problem. Aero is king.

Glad the floor issue has been resolved. Would have loved to have seen that smarmy bastard Horner's face when that verdict came through.
