Gonna be a fucking awesome race tomorrow!

Not wrong there.

Again, Lewis raced like a hero. Webber will be kicking himself.
Boring at the front, fun mid-field. Story of the season.

And again, Massa put in a great performance which was overlooked by pretty much everyone =P
Gaining the same amount of places as Hamilton and managing to pass Button who was in a car that's significantly faster on the straights, leading the WDC standings and still being advised to let Alonso through by quite a lot of people.
Poor guy just can't win =P
Though if anyone other than Vettel takes the championship this year i'll be seriously, seriously surprised.

Also, Alonso driving the whole race (well, except for the last 2 laps) with no clutch, what a drive!

• #1683
I don't know any of these names--are you sure you lot are watching the Ronde? You may have been sidetracked to the wrong race. :)
-
• #1684
What do you mean with no clutch, how does that even work?!?!
Massa is good, English pride though!
We will see how much of a difference it makes to qualifying when all teams have a ride height control system in place, the McLaren race pace looks pretty good, if they can out qualify the RB they are in with a shout?
Oh, and who put £10 on Vettel when he was 8/1? Me :D

Schumi - why has he come back? He isn't going to win, why sully his good race/win ratio? I grew up with him dominating the track, his return to F1 is going to do nothing but tarnish his winning streak.
Schumi came back for the amusement of Schumi haters like myself, in much the way that lance did last year. Schardenfreud-tastic!

mate, enough of the lance slating, the guy is a god.

the cars dont use the clutch to change gear, he would only need that when pulling away in the pits anyway.
-
• #1688
Of course they use a clutch! Just because they don't have a clutch pedal that does not mean they don't have a clutch, i'll link the article later when I get home.

cool man.

As I said before, all race cars (that i'm aware of at least) have clutches, the semi-automatic gearboxes in F1 cars do not mean that they have no clutches. Using the same logic any road car with those sily flappy paddle gearboxes would have no clutch, doesn't really make sense does it?

some don't variomatic gearboxes, the funny manual-automatic gearbox that jag used and the semi automatic in buses too.

As in CVTs? No race cars that I know of use those =P

McCarthy, how do you survive without a clutch by just stomping on the accelerator?
-
• #1695
cvt gearboxes are banned from most racing series, the only time they were use in f1 was back arround 1993ish by williams (it was whichever coulthard first started) this was banned later in the year. as for most racecars they use straight cut gears without syncro-mech which allow clutchless shifting. after a little research i found this was last used in f1 about 2005 now the seamless shift systems use an electronic clutch. as for alonso stomping on the throttle he would have been doing that to try to carfully match the engine revs with the gearbox so the gears will engage. thats why the box would shift up ok but not down.

As tas5777 stated he'd have to attempt to rev match, not something i'd like to try at 18,000rpm...

hamilton = good, button = good.

• #1698
And Alonso's an arsehole. My missus is Spanish and she reckons they hate him.
-
• #1699
I like Alonso, he's ruthless and is only out for himself. Even though i'm a huge Massa fan, the guy is just to nice to cut it in F1. No doubting his talent, there's been times when he's left the entire field for dead. But when it comes to that killer instinct that all the greats had (except Jim Clark maybe), he is just too nice.
-

Granted he's only really out for himself, but so too was Senna and everyone acknowledges that he was F1's biggest shit. Personally, I reckon the most ruthless man in the history of the sport made his comeback this season.
I'm hoping for Massa ahead of Alonso. I like Ferrari and was so annoyed when Ferrari signed Alonso, but I really like button but dislike Mclaren. What a quandary I find myself in.
