@vidal: rotten apples makes the second in their group, but their total goals (11:8) was to "bad" to enter the quarter finals. details about all games and standings are soon.

London SUCKS
To paraphrase Admiral Beatty: there seems to be something wrong with our teams...

Eric (kremin) was saying that most of the tourneys in the states are over 2 days, so the first day is just finding your feet, getting use to the court etc.. and if you lose a couple of games its no biggy. I don't think they where expecting Munich and Geneva to be at that level. And if you lose 2 games in your group then you're pretty much out unless you have a good goal difference.
IMO all the London teams played well, and there were some individuals who really stood out. But Apples the only complete team, the rest all hybrids and apples got the furthest in the tourney so i don't think you guys need to panic about the euros - just hammer the team nights from now until August!
I had an awesome w'end, and our team was a fitting tribute to the 'king of pop'. The throw ins on friday night and after the tourney fucking ruled and i got a chance to play with all the mke, munich, and paris guys which was great as we didn't get to play them in the actual tourney. All in all, good people, good polo.
@Yorgo - I have some of these for you ;)
@Em - cheers for putting me up on thursday night dude. Props to Sven and all the guys from Munich for such a well organised tourney and a huge thanks to my host Benni. And lets not forget "featureless Eddie" and his clean bike shop :D

Absolutely wicked weekend. The Munich guys and girls really stepped it up as far as hospitality was concerned. They even bought us all breakfast on Sunday morning! You guys rule!!
To paraphrase Admiral Beatty: there seems to be something wrong with our teams...
London plays some of the fastest, most exciting polo, but it can also be very solo polo. We race around with the ball and take wild shots at goal (/generalisation).The two things I noticed about the Germans and Swiss were their passing and their accuracy. They seemed to move a lot slower, but their passes were incredibly accurate, and they would just pass the ball around until someone had a clear shot on goal. One on one with the keeper and they would score >50% of the time.

Very true observation.
Lovely weekend - thanks to Lorenz & Nicole for housing us, Katrin for picking us up from the airport, Eddie for breakfast (white beer and white sausages.. mmmm!), everyone who organised it, London for the heckling, and most of all my lush team mates :)

yeah the SOLO POLO rush towards the goal isn't the best approach. Especially on small courts. But I think some of the best London teams can totally beat any of the best Euros and North Americans, given the right setting and with a bit of discipline.

Firstly….thank you Munich!

You guys (esp. Eingang) put on one well organized tourney. The hospitality from all was great (esp. thanks to Catherine and Christophe for putting Cosmic ( . ) ( . ) up) and despite first impressions, the court ended up being super fun to play on - Friday throw in’s were awesome!

It was also awesome to meet up with some familiar Euro faces, as well as play against and alongside new faces from some of the best teams in European polo and the U.S what with mighty Mustard Tigers being present.

And of course…I had a blast going out with Em, BRik, Gabes, Daaaavvvveeee, Manc Andy, Lebowski, Playboy (Yorgo), Sarah, B and Cosmic Tommo.

We all gave each other the best support, on and off the courts, as well as provided some of the best side line banter known to Polo. Manc Andy was esp. on fire, calling out lookie like players such as ‘ronnie corbit, ‘my name is earl’ and ‘featureless andy’. You prob had to be there to find it funny, but trust me, it was a crack!

And despite all only playing 3 competitive games on the day, we def instigated the most throw in’s and played with the biggest smiles and best attitudes. So if anything, we showed Europe we all just simply love polo and that’s all that really matters!

Cheers guys!

Bring on more International Polo trips – I want a Polo Wagon!

London SUCKS
Well, on the day we thought so, but having spent time thinking about what happened (or where things went wrong), I feel our game isn’t as bad as we are starting to feel.

Yes, no London team progressed into the knock out stages, which was frustrating, as we know we can play better polo. But when you consider most Euro teams have been playing together for years and then actually looked at the games themselves, it’s not as black and white as the final rankings may indicate.

I didn’t watch every London game, but what I do know is Rotten Apples finished amongst the top 4 2nd ranked teams and if it wasn’t for a weaker goal difference would have gone through to the knock out stages. After their 3rd game they looked strong and I reckon could have gone on further.

With Comsic Breasts, we got a respectable 3-3 draw against Maty,Schindel und Söhne in our first game, which was a typical tourney starting one - tight and full of nervous adrenaline. Then we suffered a 3-2 loss in our second game with Poloholics Torros - who finished runners up, so one of the best teams in Europe. However, if it wasn’t for my brake cable snapping just after the game started, which instantly changed my style to a defensive one, the result could have been different. Then our final game was with DT All Stars who had nothing to lose. The game felt like a true London one, fast end to end stuff, with plenty of attacking play, but on the day, DT All Stars were the better team and smashed us 5-1. But atleast I took Lebowski out proper style – sorry mate!

Overall, it looks like London teams do play faster, more aggressive polo and chase the games (balls) more. Where as Euro teams tend to hold possession better and play the ball around the court to create openings for shots.

I feel we should def keep elements of our game though. It’s great we are fast and powerful, but we can make improvements to our playing style, inorder to increase the passing rate and close the opportunities we allow for counter attacking.

I think the more team games we get in before the Euros, the better prepped we will be to make an impact.

London is no push over, but perhaps our passion for the game sometimes takes over.
