  • thath why i uze thuperglue

  • Do these super-duper magnets stick to alloy then?
    Just a thought...

Most bolts are steel I thought?

Alloy bolt kits being a mountain bike thing from my youth, back when anodizing everything in site electric blue was quite the thing.

  • hope you guys realise your gonna need a bigfuckoff™ magnet to remove said magntic bearings :)

  • which i hasten to add, will want to stick to said bearings little hidey hole, causing that to become magnetic and everything will all become one.

ooooooooh, i love upsettling threads :)

  • you only need a little bit
and with the left overs, you can have some fun with your mates

    FTW

  • i'm really curious to try but then there's that, on my bike are two bolts to hold 1st saddle a 6mm allen and 2nd a 5mm for the seatpost clamp ... so do these fit in both? or for which bolt are they then since 6.4mm seems a bit tight to me, though i din't measure anything ... yet :S

  • OK, just to answer murtle's incessant jabbering, here is the plan:

We get ball bearing magnets that are small enough to fit in either 5mm or 6mm allen key bolt heads. (3/16" or 4.75 mm)

We hope that the bolt heads are ferro magnetic, i.e. not alloy.

We use another of the ball bearings to remove from the bolt head, since the bearings will attract each other more than they attract the bolt head.

    Hey presto.

I have no idea if any of the above will work, so if it is all crap, I will swallow the cost and use the magnets as an executive toy.

  • We now have 25 sets on the list = 50 ball bearing magnets, so I'm going to order them.

BTW, the cheaper ones that mc_nebula linked to above will be too big.

  • Surely now a bike thief has read this and is stealing a magnet.

  • Ordered :-)

  • start buying all the magnets on ebay as well :)

  • can you not lever them out with a pin or the like?

I'd like to know the same.
seems like it would be quite easy.

  • I will swallow the cost and use the magnets as an executive toy.

swallow the cost by all means, just don't swallow the magnets.

    er..I want some too.

  • These have been shipped now. Dunno how long they will take to get here.

Phil, you shall have some magnets, i think. Since i assume dovoneil wants 10 magnets, not ten sets = 20.

  • why not just get normal ball bearings and vaseline to hold them in.
    use magnets to extraxt them

    ah already shipped...

  • i will be holding a ball bearing glu-athon tonite only at west beers

  • I see this as a win/win. Wither it works and is col or i get loads of little magnets to play with.

    Bonus.

  • strong magnets can be used as a bike rack aswell you know.

  • I got hit by a £11.59 customs charge. bastards.

  • They've arrived and they look good. I'll test 'em out tonight.
