little bit pricey but i love my brute mini and pitball mini and totally trust them

  • Anyone interested, found the brute cheapist on ebay

    http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/330722763122?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&adtype=pla

    (all terrain charge postage)

Received this today, initial impression was it doesn't feel as nicely built as my FAGH, mechanism isn't as smooth, it's a bit rattly and even keys feel a bit cheap and plasticky. This is fairly irrelevent though, at less than half the price I paid for my FAGH, and it does come with 5 keys!

Mechanism seems good, locking on both sides fagh style, and although not as menacing as the FAGH, it's a fair chunk of lock. My mind is much more at rest with this than the evo, and compared to the other locks on the stand around me, I don't think the opportunistic pikey will be choosing my lock to pick on. At £25 as well I'm happy to have it and leave it at work.

Brute Mini? Where did you get it in the UK?

  • Does anybody knoe which brand of lock comes with the best, most durable and secure frame mounting bracket?

  • The Granit-X/54 Plus from Abus has quite a chunky mount (the one where the lock goes through the mount itself, not the one that you clip the lock into).

It's a bit rattly and bulky though - I have a pretty permanent bruise on the inside of my knee from constantly knocking it.

  • What do we reckon to Kryptonites new mini-evo chains? I thought it might be good as a secondary lock that's not too bulky

  • Not worth having. 10mm thick links are practically an invitation to thieves.

  • Its been a while since I read through this thread, but from the last page I take it that the cheapest option is still the onguard brute?

My GF will need locks, and they'll have to be cheap. So I was thiking of the Brute from ebay, and if I can talk her into it a mini evo* for the front.

    Thoughts?

    • to have an obviously branded lock on there as much as anything else.
  • Good combo hugo7.

I've been informed that the Brute Mini that was mentioned, was posted over from the USA. So as far as I know, its not on general sale in the UK.

  • I didn't realize it wasn't on sale here just thought it was a bit tricky to get hold of. Is there a reason for it?

  • No idea. I've been wanting to see it on sale here, since forever.

  • This is what my Abus X54 looks like after it fell down while riding at about 15 km/h:

Shouldn’t be a problem in terms of security.

  • I've seen more than one bike locked with its lock looking exactly like that......probably after a bit of a tumble also. Slightly weakened, but not significantly.

  • new Onguard locks look good. Haven't seen them for sale yet only on the onguard website http://www.onguardlock.com/?page_id=329

check this out, bit long video but after i watched it dont know what to buy lock...

  • No, I won't watch the video, as it contains Boris Johnson. But from recollection, he's had 2 if not 3 bikes stolen, so the news is not new.

If you read the first post of this thread, you will then know which locks to buy. Simples .

  • What looks like the Oxford Magnum at Sainsburys Huddersfield for £3.99

    Possibly also at other stores

Edit: Looks like it is the Sainsbury's Shackle Lock Long

  • Hey guys,

Not got my bike yet but as I live in London (well Bromley) locks are one of the first things I'm investing in.

My current idea for a combination is:
Kryptonite 3000 or fug mini or Abus Granit 54
    Pitlocks or Pinlocks

For a long time I was interested in:
Almax series 3 chain & Padlock
    Pitlock or Pinlocks

I got a bit put off by the supposed weight of the Almax chains, does anyone have one and would you guys recommend them over my current option?

The idea of the Pinlock or Pitlocks was to avoid needing the weight of a second lock plus 2 d-locks wont secure the seat/forward anyway, is this suitable/enough?

Which would be the better option out of pitlocks or pinlocks?

I hope to be getting this bike in the next few weeks:

Buying from Germany seems to be £210 cheaper than buying from the UK so I figure the money I save can help with added security, I really hate the idea of someone nicking my bike, I'm looking forward to getting it so much.

  • Ugh, now I'm seriously considering Kryptonite Fug mini + Albus 54+ and a pitlock for the front and seat.

I've been going over this for about a month now :(

  • just to muddy the waters atomic22 is also worth looking at for security skewers.

fatbirds.co.uk is usually good for cheap prices on locks (kryptonite at least) and evans has pricematched them in store for me in the past.

  • Price matched fatbirds in Evans yesterday, so they're still good with it.

Yeah I saw them on here last night, they're absolutely beautiful but DAMN they're expensive, plus I couldn't even work out how much 2 skewers a front and a seatpost lock would actually cost.

    They are lovely though...
