  • Link to** Alarmed Disc-Lock Review** - by Clefty, now added to first post.

Clefty first noticed my recommendation here in another thread, but that was 2 months after I'd recommended in this one.

  • Thanks for compiling this info, very comprehensive and a real eye opener.

    Andy

  • ile, brought this to light. I'll try to find out if it is kosher.

    EDIT:
I've tried to check with the retailers, but have not been answered. I can't recommend it, even if it might be very good. No way to tell.
Oh, and Ile says the key is laughable. Therefore, DO NOT put all your faith in this one lock.

  • this was helpful thanks.

  • One thing I've noticed whilst cycling round London (more so than anywhere else) is the number of people who leave their locks attached to lamposts/sheffield stands etc.

It wasn't just the ususal crop of generic cable locks either - I must have seen the whole range of Kryptonite D locks as well as a few of the high-end (at first glance anyway) Abus locks.

Surely it means serious bike thieves now have something to practice on?

  • ^ i've always wondered about that... i'd assumed it was a bike locked through the wheel, bike got stolen & the after some time the council just cut the wheel free leaving the lock.

I used to leave my Krypto 18mm New York Lock on the Sheffield stand outside my office during the week, occasionally over the weekend. It was so heavy that I couldn't face carrying it every day.

people couldn't be bothered to carry their lock, that's all there to it really, I have a lock outside CSM at the moment.

Highly doubt it, the theft wouldn't waste his time cutting a lock and risk getting spotted by a police officier just so he could practised cutting them, in fact cutting locks isn't rocket science.

  • Kryptonite New York Lock around back wheel, seat tube to a post +
Kryptonite Mini-D around front rim and down tube.

Got a new bike just as the secure car park at work is shut down, d'oh.

This sounds like the safest solution for somewhere busy like London Bridge...

Have purchased a new Fahg Mini and an Evolution Mini both for under £100 :) using Evans' price match policy.

Do Evans do a price match on online prices?

Ha same here mine was there since the end of may, just picked it up last night!

be careful, the london bridge area is a bit dodgy sometime.

    Yup, I price-matched using Parker International's prices.
Just print off the page and bring it in.

The product, as stated in T&C's, must be in stock - at the moment the Fahg isn't in stock. However, if you know a bit of html you can edit that stock alert bit out...

  • haha nice one, i'm gonna try this tomorrow, cheers.

careful, sometime they actually go onto the website to check if it is indeed correct.

  • is it worth paying an extra £10 to get the ny fag rather than the straight ny?

  • if it only £10, then yes.

  • Except the NY has a bigger shackle... I use and NY3000 and an abus granit 1000 cable. IMO better than the mini front wheel to frame as i get 2 points mounted to something on the street.

    cyclesurgery do

  • Both Cyclesurgery and Evans will price-match to internet prices (companies physically based in the UK), if corrobarating evidence is shown - a photocopy of the online item with its price included will do.

Many LBS's will price match to local (same city) shops. Just ask.

  • If I was Mr. Kryptonite, I would make the Fah D-lock a couple of centimeters wider so you can lock up to more things, as the NY3000 leaves too much room at the end. Or just make the NY 5 cm shorter.

10.5x15 cm would be perfection for me.

  • think GA2G's point about LBS price matching should be repeated. I am all about helping the local guys. yes you can find a big national store that will match prices, but first ask your LBS if they can match (or even just improve on their marked prices). often, they simply can't squeeze their margins like the big guys and/or internet shops - but no harm in asking

  • The Axa-Basta SecuCity Plus, is on sale in the UK. Its been given 10/10 ratings by 2 magazines.

It looks alot like the Blok. Its just under £40.oo and is a 16mm diameter U-Lock.

Apparently Axa-Basta offer an international key replacement service, for those that need it.

  • parker have some faghetaboutits in stock I belive but havent updated their website, call them to check though

  • Cheers for the heads up on the faghs, been waiting a while for one :)

Phoned Evans to check if they had New York M18s, the dude said "Which ones are they, erm erm, the yellow ones or the orange ones?", useless...

Ordered from Parker instead, it arrived the next day and they phoned me right back to answer a question I sent with my order. Nice.

  • Has anyone else got one of those Xena alarmed disc locks and having issues with it? Mine seems to be a bit oversensitive. The security guard in the car park where I leave my bike during the day had a proper whinge at me yesterday afternoon as it kept going off apparently.
