click 'multi-quote' on the first one you want (and the 2nd, 3rd etc) and then 'quote' on the final one.

Pulled up at some lights on the inside of a VW Golf, behind a truck signalling left. (I am planning on going left too) !
That does sound scary.

Reminds me very much of a story my brother (Jalaphanti) has to tell involving a van passenger, some dickishness and some retribution.
Lets get partisan...no matter the trigger of that behaviour (yours or theirs) , managing to drop them is an epic win. Good for you.

balls I cant work out how to actually multi quote. I meant posts 477 and 470
Best "Oh, Shit" moment in the thread. :)

Fucking hate cycling up Kingsland Rd...
Start off at the bottom serene as you like, get to stokey and am fucking livid. Peds don't give a fuck, too many hipster douches erratically trying to steer whatever shitheap douche bike they have bought on a whim, shite road surfaces and fucking maniac bus drivers.
Had a massive swear-fest at about 6 different people on my up there today. fucking tossers.
Where on the A10 do you get problems?

^both of these. do you understand how your own actions did not help in these situations. if you want to keep yourself safe out there you need to be careful with your own actions.
I do understand that what I did wasn't wise, but wisdom would have been wasted here, I just can't stand it when people behave like that.
A few years ago I was almost knocked off by a young lad in a car full of his mates who pulled out in front of me. I skidded to a stop alongside them, narrowly avoiding a nasty accident. Instead of an apology I got a load abusive verbal, especially from the driver, who drove about 10 feet before he had to stop at a red light.
I rode around his car so I was facing him as he leant out the window giving me a whole load more verbal and just belted him, they all got out and ran after me for about 200 yards before running out of steam.
I only worry that they think that because I was on a bike all cyclists should be on the receiving end of their retribution. -

They probably do now, yeah.

Had one this morning, coming down the slope towards the Tower Hotel, turning left at speed - see a young woman about to cross (not looking) ding my bell. She has a deer in headlights moment looks straight at me and runs into my path, I jam my front brake on only for it to slip, as I obviously hadn't tightened it enough when I replaced it the other day..I clatter into her.
Amazing we both remained upright and intact, she apologised - we both checked each other was ok, and went on our way. Rather civilised really. One of those mornings, as earlier I had got a front puncture, waiting at lights - WTF?!

suicidal peds are out in force of late it seems. must be the weather. like your japanese bike catcher story claire - told mrs cf about it for a lol. names were changed to protect the innocent.

I used to think Kings Road was bad at the weekends for peds, but I had the misfortune of cutting along New Bond Street last saturday. Although it's a 3 lane one way, people were still just walking on to the road.

The japanese bike catcher was a classic, today reminded me of it as she did a similar thing.
I've only ever crashed into two people, she was the second. It's the way I hit 'em

Not sure this is the right place for this but heh ho!
It was an oh shit moment...
I Got knocked off by a guy in a car who was queueing in stationary traffic near olympia this morning and decided that he wanted to do a u-turn the exact time I was riding next to him. Cue much swerving from me to avoid him but I had nowhere to go so the inevitable impact happened and then I flew through the air with bike and skidded across the ground (to be honest it was abit of a blur). He asks "Are you ok" to which I responded "not really". He helped me up and a couple of people came out of the bookies to help. One of them got a chair and some water for me. Then the driver took me to hospital and waited until I'd been seen and patched up. He also gave me all his details and £40 which was pretty decent of him. He was also very apologetic and very sorry for what had happened. Feel pretty shit now though. I think all the painkillers and adrenaline has finally left my system. It did shit me up pretty bad but I am very thankful that I got away with just cuts and bruises. The moral of the story for me is doesn't matter how experienced or competent you are as a cyclist you can never account for erratic behavior. Be careful out there folks!

• #493
£40 for a few hours work? Nice.
-
• #494
At least the driver was decent about it.
-
• #495
get a full medical report from the hospital
hopefully you have his details
then contact one of the "solicitors we like" (see relevant thread)

About half a year ago, I'm rehearsing with my band, so have the mobile on mute. But while having a break, I notice 4 missed calls from the missus. She knows I'm busy, so must be important. Calling her back, she says that a fucking taxi reversed onto her! I ask if she's ok, she says yeah, but I know she might be in shock, concussion, terrible images rushing through my head... Admittedly, she is a bit happy-go-lucky, so I'm always sorta' worried about her riding in traffic. Blood rushed to my head, that was a huge OH SHIT moment, I tell you. Knowing I'm miles from her, and couldn't be there sooner than 15 mins, and that only with light traffic and RLJing so can't do much anyways. She's crying over the phone, saying the cabbie gave her some verbal and also keeps asking if that's not her fault and if I'm not angry at her. That's probably because I used to scold her for not being observant and careful enough while riding. So I had to really make sure and ask a million times whether she's hurt and comfort her.
Later, when she calmed down, it turned out she was waiting behind that taxi on a right turn-only lane at a red light, when the driver suddenly started reversing (apparently to let a hooker off [sic!]), first slowly, so she was trying to get out of the way, but then the fucker accelerated into her front wheel. Must've seen her in the rear view mirror directly behind him when reversing in broad daylight, but still kept going on. She burst into tears, some other hookers (yup...) kept shouting "the fuck are you doing, there's a cyclist behind you!" and actually got into an argument with the passenger, who then also shouted at my gf some bullshit about her supposedly being on the wrong side of the road or some similar.
Fortunately, she was 100% intact, only I had to replace the bent stem (a very long one - Dutch bike).Probably sounds pretty trivial, but I swear I was so fucking angry and scared at once. An "oh shit oh fuck oh shit oh jesus wtf" moment.

licence number, witness details and a jaunt to your local po po store should see that cabbie off the road in no time. glad your lady is ok

Yesterday afternoon whilst riding through Brighton with Rhowe.
I was a bit tired and was not concentrating. R stopped at some lights that I hadn't noticed. I was doing a fair pace and grabbed for my front brake as if I was on my fixed instead of my racer. Of course, I was clutching at air. I swung the bars wildly to avoid a full on collision next thing I know, I'm flying through the air.
Must have been quite a stack as I have dents in the front and back of my helmet (remember head bouncing off road) and lumps and bruises on both the front left and front right side of my right knee, my right hip, my right ribs and a nice round hole in the small of the back of my new long sleeved jersey.
This was total rider error, I was a bit tired and not concentrating as I should have been. The purest form of oh shit moment is when you are aware that you are flying through the air and your head is bouncing off the road! I am totally fine though, we spent the whole train journey home pissing ourselves about it.
Caerful when you're tired kids!

Oh and another oh shit moment...
Two weeks ago while I was out in Suffolk on a century ride I was enjoying some rapid descents down the few short but steep hills you have round there on the essex border. I was rattling down one at 28ish only to spot a two inch deep covering of sand at the bottom of the hill.
Too late to slow down, I tried to make myself as upright and balanced as possible. I ended up doing a front wheel skid at speed through the sand and somehow staying upright. My heart was properly in my mouth and I could feel my heart beating in my ears afterwards.
I stopped to look round and see what sort of tracks I had left in the sand. Both my front and rear wheel were at an angle as I skidded through at one point...must have somehow managed to correct it! BIt of a rush...

Nice cyclocross skills there. The sand, not the bouncing on your head.
