"Oh Shit" moments...

  • Aye. It makes the crank walk along the taper and damage the edges.

  • One of the riders in the tour series at canary wharf had an Oh Shit moment last night. 1 lap later he rides past in the pack with a bunch of holes in the lycra covering his butt.

  • All good, they're getting thrown away soon anyway along with the BB for an overhaul. But they're surprisingly ok, square taper is pretty solid.

  • A cyclist had her 'cant unclip quickly enough' oh shit moment in front of me. Luckily for her it wasnt a far fall and onto the pavement. Helped her back up and she explained it was her first clipless ride, lovely shiny new Mavics. Gave her a few pointers and laughed about it. Hope she got home ok.

  • A nodder riding on the pavement suddenly decided they wanted to be on the road, a shame it happened to be the line i was currently on, but i saw him turn just in time and offered a condescending "look next time" as I whipped past

i think it's best for people to get that out of the way as soon as possible when riding clipless stops the worrying about what'll happen if you do it whilst riding in traffic, which is generally you just make a tit of yourself.

  • Your first clip less fall is a badge of honour, still have the lump on my knee from years ago.

  • Speaking of, my ATAC came off it's axle still attached to my shoes this morning while in traffic. That was terrifying start to the day.

  • Axel unscrewed from the crank or the peddle from the axle?

  • Pedal from the axle, which is baffling. I have no idea how to fix these pedals either!

  • It seems to be a common occurrence with Atacs. Check out the U've bin Indra'd thread for more pics.

  • Did you have play in the peddle before it came away or was it without warning?

You're using the ROC model arent you? I've yet to see Aliums or the Colourful ones do that.

There was a little play, which I'd naively attributed to the rubber seal screw thingy coming away from the inner side of the pedal.

I am, I think they're an older model though because the axle is longer and thinner. Think they're fixable?

  • Wow well the last few posts on here have done nothing to help me make my mind about switching from spd to atacs!

    Precisely this.
I had planned to switch all my bikes over from SPD to ATAC but these posts have made me doubtful.

    Better the Devil you know?

  • I have to say, in my limited use with SPD's, that the ATACS are all round much better, and you'll really only come out of them when you absolutely want to (for the most part). Admittedly they seem to be pretty high maintenance/difficult to fix though.

In defence of the ones I own, they've had the shit kicked out of them for a very long time!

They are, I don't personally use them, but quite a few people on here do.

There's isn't just one version of Time pedals. Neither is there one ATAC version. I don't think the ROC model was meant to stand the lateral forces of skidding (if that's what you're going to use it for). I've found the Alium and these to be much sturdier. Though I don't speak from experience in using the ROC's, just the two I linked above.

  • ^thanks for the insight.

  • I haven't killed an ATAC XC4 before.

  • I haven't killed an ATAC XC4 yet

    .

  • When the stunt car driver looks surprised you know you have problems

  • Oh shit.
