I think the point is it's at least reasonably difficult to ride at a steady 25mph unless you're going down hill or have a pretty helpful tail wind. Were you riding fixed? If so what ratio are you on?
well okay ill describe the road, there's a T junction with traffic lights on each side and a tunnel under for the canal, so when its green you start on a hill, by the time i'm in the pedals and ready to go it goes downhill, then its a slight downhill then flat for about half a mile, i was on a 46:18 spinning pretty fast in the drops
so for about a quarter of a mile i can go pretty speedy

With 700x23c tyres your 46:18 is about a 67" gear. Spinning at 100rpm, you are doing 20mph, you need to spin at 120rpm to get to 24mph.

Just going out for my first day riding fixed gear. Tune in later for a flood of oh shit moments.

Dont bother actually. Turns out fixed gear is a piece of piss that I have somehow grown to fear due to legend and folklore.
Ok, I admit it...I did have to ride along repeating "pedal pedal pedal pedal" out loud.
Maybe I'll have something to post here on my ride home.

yeah, i just got a computer for my road bike.. im definatley not as fast as i thought i was, i find 55mph a bit of a stretch too if im honest.

Just posted tis in the dangerous drivers.........
"Had my moment this morning, cycling up Thoabalods Road, ahead of the traffice coming up to the lights on Red Lion St (on red) and then a moped courier driver appears at my right hand shoulder. The lights are still on red and this guy starts getting closer and closer to me, pushing me out of the way. If I hadn't moved over we'd have collided. We had a few words at the lights where I told him he was a fat cunt and we swapped a few pleasentaries along that lineHe was wearing a high vis vest, works for CYC couriers and was on a 125cc.
Rant over is there a best re-course for this/ Would it rate as calling the poice or would a shitty email to work do the job?
Pretty sure on that stretch there are a load of cameras. There was also someone n a black bike (orange logo) with a yellow dry sack who had been doing an excellent track stand earlier who might have a more impatial view - good chance of him being on here?"

You could report it and write an email. But spellcheck is your friend.

funny that because when I looked at gear inches it said 73", they never seem to be right...

120rpm? No biggie. I average 110rpm on a road ride.
-
• #391
garmin stats please^
What is your gearing?
People comment that I spin a lot on the flat on the road bike, but average out the downhills and the slower cadence up hills my average generally around 90 rpm on a good day
My flat cadence is often around a 95-105 but there is no way that I can average that given periods of no pedalling and ascents.

I've spent winters averaging 110rpm on a gear in the 59-63" region, on rolling terrain for up to about 2 hours, but it gets difficult to maintain that sort of cadence as the gear/speed/power increases.

Has anyone been taken out by a rampaging deer in Richmond Park yet? Had a close call last year when a young un realised the rest of the family had crossed the road and bolted as I was coming down the hill section at a fairly high rate of knots - little bugger came out of nowhere and hearly clipped me.
Had a squirrel cross my path as a kid and bombing downhill on a gravel path, then when he was clear the little shit decided to turn back and run back across again.

Hehe, "riding slower easier than riding quickly" shock!

I just used Sheldon's calculator, says 67.2", as does this one: http://software.bareknucklebrigade.com/

Not sure on the gear ratio as I've never bothered to work out my road gears. I just know that over 50mi I regularly averaged 19mph with an average cadence of 110rpm. I have no garmin and rely on a non wireless cateye computer, which is pretty accurate.
46:18 is 67.2" A bit small for flat area riding

There was a guy going down the Oxford Road today averaging about 1mph with a cadence around 110rpm.
Have really really never understood why pepole do that..

But nowhere@25mph probably just guessed his gearing.
