  • ^^^ Yes, agree with all this.

^^ But this is the thing. If you can successfully avoid a drunk driving charge by merely leaving the scene, the punishment for this should be in excess of the charge which you can avoid. I thought that it was similar thinking which lead to perjury being so serious an offence. If you can lie in court to avoid being convicted for murder, then the punishment for that lying must be serious in itself.

What I am saying is that this woman should have the book thrown at her... she should be made to wish she had stuck around, taken the drink driving charge and only lost her license. The charge for leaving the scene should be leaving your license at least. And in most cases should involve losing a limb or having to sacrifice your first born or something.

    You both get rep.

  • people have been arrested and successfully prosecuted for carrying camping knives when they were going camping, being told that they should have bought a camping knife once they reached their destination.

    Really?

  • yeah otherwise all the youths would just walk around with tents and sleeping bags on their backs so they can say 'na blud i iz carrying this blade cos i'm on my way camping innit tchhhh'

  • although i prefer the idea they'd try to pass themselves off as chefs and wander round with a bag of vegetables and a chef's hat.

  • enjoying a nice ride, chatting to a random i picked up along the way, then crank comes off - more of an oh ffs moment. one legged riding home.

  • Chefs Vs campers Vs butchers turf wars ftw.

  • although i prefer the idea they'd try to pass themselves off as chefs and wander round with a bag of vegetables and a chef's hat.

This is almost an exact word for word reason for why the laws were changed.

It used to just be an offence to be carrying an offensive weapon, an intended offensive weapon or an adapted offensive weapon. After too many people got away with the "chef", "carpenter" "other professions that use sharp or pointy things" it became an offence to be carrying a sharply pointed or bladed item without good reason, too.

  • I get pulled for getting my wit out all the fucking time.

  • few miles from home and pop...

  • Looks like serious skidz patch issues???

  • 47:17

there's a few other spots of the canvas around the tyre, that was the unlucky bit.

  • just had the closest call between life/death (one where i didnt have to go hospital for) in my life

it was such an awesome save

  • Details when you got your breath back?

Just make sure you learn from it dude. A while back I had a miracle save that I was patting myself on the back about, two days later I woke up in hospital with no idea how I got there. Overconfidence is your enemy.

  • goes in order
    1 - 2
    3 - 4

1, Red car overtakes me and turns left, did indicate so i saw it coming and had time to brake

2, road all clear so i plan to get out of saddle to do a 5 second effort sprint

3, green car starts to turn into road to my left (mega OOooooOOooHHHHhh shittttttt)

4, two handfuls of front/rear brake, rear wheel skidz like never before pretty much tailwhipping was pretty sure i was going to hit the deck, then my brakes surprised me by stopping me just in time to let the car pass, about one foot away from death

  • Glad you're OK. I can see how a careless driver of that green car would have assumed that there was no-one there and crossed.

  • Wore out a nice bit of my sidewall on my schwalbe duranos

  • few miles from home and pop...

    Ironic tyre name, right there.

  • skidded clean through my tyre on the bmx, an BOOM!
walk of shame all the way home

  • 4, two handfuls of front/rear brake, rear wheel skidz like never before pretty much tailwhipping was pretty sure i was going to hit the deck, then my brakes surprised me by stopping me just in time to let the car pass, about one foot away from death

Should have allowed yourself to use the side of the car to terminate your emergency avoidance

  • Yesterday afternoon whilst riding through Brighton with Rhowe.

I was a bit tired and was not concentrating. R stopped at some lights that I hadn't noticed. I was doing a fair pace and grabbed for my front brake as if I was on my fixed instead of my racer. Of course, I was clutching at air. I swung the bars wildly to avoid a full on collision next thing I know, I'm flying through the air.

Must have been quite a stack as I have dents in the front and back of my helmet (remember head bouncing off road) and lumps and bruises on both the front left and front right side of my right knee, my right hip, my right ribs and a nice round hole in the small of the back of my new long sleeved jersey.

This was total rider error, I was a bit tired and not concentrating as I should have been. The purest form of oh shit moment is when you are aware that you are flying through the air and your head is bouncing off the road! I am totally fine though, we spent the whole train journey home pissing ourselves about it.

    Caerful when you're tired kids!

Missed your account of this at the time - probably wasn't helped by the heft of the thing you crashed into. Pinarello still riding straight?

This was my latest moment, hit a speed bump and crack

  • how much of the seatpost was inserted into the frame?

  • Lots. It was well within its limits. I think the problem was due to the way the seat clamp fitted into the seatpost, the fact that the seat was positioned back from centre (although only by half an inch or so) and me putting my (hardly featherweight) mass back slightly as I went over the speed bump.

  • looks like only the last part of the crack is fresh.

  • utter terror moment yesterday evening. coming off E&C roundabout onto New Kent Road and I see a bus up ahead at a stop. I take a quick check over my shoulder to see if I can pull out to overtake only to see another bus halfway past me and half a foot away from me... indicating to turn into the stop. luckily I stayed calm and stopped. If I had carried on he would have taken me out. Anyone who wasn't as experienced on a bike could have easily come off and gone under the bus. Never been so scared before.

I rode past him and told him how dangerous he was. Looked at me blankly as if he did nothing wrong. Contacted TfL last night to tell them to give him training. Could have been the end of ol' Sugoi here.
