Went to clip in this morning mid-commute... CRACK. Look down and the left crank arm is not there.

Just about managed to stay upright and roll to the pavement, whenceforth I retrieved my crank from the gutter and discovered that I'd snapped the bottom bracket*.

A cold and boring hunt for a bike shop ensued.

So word on the street lately, apparently the council are turning off most street lights after midnight to save energy or something, anyway, i work night shifts and finish work at 4am, get out the carpark and down the road, its pitch black, unlit roads most the way home, getting icey to, Oh shit.

She hit me I went on her bonnet came off the other side still on my bike screamed and waved my arms frantically at her. She completely ignored me and drove off.

Just fell off on Oxford road. Fuck knows what happened. Think I pulled out of pedals. No damage thankfully. Just looked a bit of a twat.

cycling downhill on ssmtb with rear brake only, freewheeling etc going about 30-35mph, about 20-30 metres ahead light turns yellow i start braking but i realise i'm not going to be able to stop in time, car stops in front leaving no space for me to go around, opposite lane is clear but a young girl has already started to walk across the road, i had no choice but to go from the opposite lane, trying not to hit the girl i go around her from her back (does that make sense? basically i didnt cycle in front of her)

then woohey all good, then i realise im still holding the brake lever but not slowing down, the brake cable snapped

One of the reasons I never liked riding rear brake only on my polo bike, usually had a front on too, even if I never used it. Don't even have hills on the home-polo-pub-home route.

the forks i've got on now are reaaaaaaaaaaally nice but have no mounts for brakes, i've ridden down that hill hundreds of times over the last couple years, maybe i should put some new forks on for the winter, i dunno, don't think i'll change anything though, i'll just change the cables more often

you should report that to the police. if there is cctv evidence that shows the incident and identifies the car she will likely be charged with careless driving and failing to stop / report an accident.

it is one thing being careless - we can all be sometimes - but just driving off deserves to be formally noted and punished.

it is i think - careless driving has a maximum sentence of a fine - failing to stop / report might be more.
