Eileen Sheridan - broke the record for cycling from Lands End to Jon O'Groats in June of 1954. After completing the 870 miles, she continued on another 130 to break the 1000 mile time record too!

Time to revived this.
Alfonsina Strada, the only women who raced the Giro d'Italia in 1924.
It was 1924, and there was serious doubt that the Giro d'Italia would happen. Most of the major sponsors were holding back because the economy in Italy was depressed. As a result, few riders signed up for the annual race. But one who did was a woman, signed up as Alfonsin Strada. Using her husband's last name and her first name less the "a" on the end, it appeared that she was a man. When they found out, would she be allowed to participate in the ride?

Wow.
Repeated.
Have now printed off that story and will show it to one of my nieces who I'm encouraging to believe in the value of hard work to achieving her goal(s).

Just going through several issue of Bicycle Quarterly, they also did a fantastic piece of Jacquie Phelan especially on her limitation as a woman in an men MTB race.

Maybe not everyone's cuppa but I thought this was pretty rad....

*"It was a shame that I couldn't finish the race. I had paced it well to the turn so I had enough gas left for the return leg."

Lucky to be alive by the sounds of it, maybe a "get well soon" from everyone on here wouldn't go amiss? -

Eileen Sheridan deserves the repoast

• #448
Well, she deserves further mention, if not a straight word-for-word repost.

I think that the forum's own Wiesia deserves a mention for the VeloJam women's track day. I'm really impressed at what she's organised (along with her team). Walking the walk as well as talking the talk. It's not just about riding the bike. FIngers crossed that the weather holds and we'll have a great afternoon of women's racing.

Me too! Well done Wiesia! I'm sorry I'm missing VeloJam but I've sent Jaygee to represent me.
Olympics? Pfft! extra obligatory ; ) ; ) ; )
Sweeet! Am more involved in the hype/taking part than organising but will pass on to those who are!
