Poor bugger :0(
I lost my collie cross just over a year ago at 13...... Just remember the good times, and that you provided some good dog space for him, if the prognosis is bad....
I came here to post a pic of our new pup, but it somehow doesn't feel appropriate now.

Beauty.

Just had it confirmed by the vet.....she's only 6 weeks. But in good health.
-
• #5457
How come you her so young?
-
• #5458
She was supposed to be 8 weeks.....I had my suspicions though, which the vet confirmed at her first jabs.
It wasn't a puppy farm, or reputable breeder, but we saw mum and dad, plus the rest of the litter, in a big house in stapleford abbots.....so not a pikey trailer park either.
The good news is, that the vet says she is very healthy, and she is not too young to be away from mum. There have been no sleepless nights, as she has slotted in with my other dog, with him taking over the father role! She is eating, drinking and going to the loo on the pads, in the same place (bar a couple of mistakes!).....and doing lots of playing with my toes!
Here's MR Riley looking over Lola before she went to sleep....And here he is when she settled....
He's being very protective!

She looks like our Lhasa Apso. Beautiful pup.

Thanks....Mr Riley is Lhasa/bichon cross too......I was never a fan of little dogs till we got him :0)

Got to see Rory this weekend for the last time, it was absolutely heartbreaking to see him struggling so much, you could still see the old Rory underneath but he could barely stand any more. He went to this vets this morning, thankfully he wasn't in any pain and went peacefully. He will be missed very much.

did anyone see that programme about home alone dogs on monday .. well worth a watch if you have a dog that is at home for long periods of time on it's own
-
• #5465
Any chance of a summary dicki?
-
• #5466
75% of dogs have some anxiety about being left at home alone when owners go off to work ... as shown via hormones in saliva, it wasn't always visible via the behaviour
however others showed some very sad signs
some just sit and howl
some paced incessantly
others just very nervous and jumpy
tv vet mark someone or rather showed a few tips techniques to help with the anxiety
it was quite sad to see the pack animal separated from it's pack and not 100% sure it's owner / pack would be coming back for it -
• #5467
some on the other hand just amused themselves, playing fetch on their own with toys
sleeping most of the day
just chilling out round the house -
• #5468
was it mostly dependent on breed?
-
• #5469
My two come to my office with me everyday - if I went without them I think staff and client's would send me home to fetch them!
Left to right Megan, Basil (both ours) and Archie (my mates dog and Megan's litter brother)
This year Archie was best dog at Crufts and Basil was reserve. If you are going to be second its best to be second to a good mate. All 3 dogs are pets first, live in our houses and sleep on our beds. They all run in the countryside every day - 6.5 miles of trails for our two today.

crufts winner ... not bad !
-
• #5471
Interestingly of the 3 Megan is probably the best but, whilst she rules the pack and doesn't tolerate any challenges to her leadership, she gets scared in the show ring and so we don't show her. She is a pet and companion for Basil. Since we got her 10 months ago (rehomed from a breeder) Basil's behaviour is much more settled. If he gets boisterous or randy Megan just growls at him and then gets hold of him by the neck!

I think that Tesla is feeling under the weather - she's got no energy, and has just nested on a hessian shopping bag since I got home.
What can I do for her whilst she recovers from whatever is making her feel bad?
-
• #5473
Hey all! Has been a while so thought I'd drop by. :)
Dammit - I always go with chicken stock (made fresh not shop bought cos its too salty) or tuna water. Always perks mine up. Helps stimulate appetite if there is none. Hope Tesla is feeling better soon.
Mine have been absolute superstars since I've been ill and housebound. I would have gone insane without them I think. William, our jack Russell is suffering a little because he doesn't get off the lead so much now the missus walks him and I can't. I'm currently searching out a dog walker that can take me (in a wheelchair) and will for a walk once a week. Would you believe that several have already refused the job because they are not insured to push me? It's gonna be trickier to find one than I first thought.
The cats are all getting on famously. Can't believe we have four cats and no disagreements! I sometimes forget we have 4 because it's so peaceful.
Right, enough chat, I'll dig out some pics. :)

Here's TigerLily, or T-Lo as we often call her. She's wedged herself between a cushion and my bag.
This is a slightly confused looking photo of Smudgie (grey tabbie), Little Bee (black and ginger) and William all having a bit of a love-in. On my lap. And Pam, the slightly autistic cat, is sleeping peacefully in the background on the Missus.
Little Bee and T-Lo playing. This was taken quite a while ago as they don't have much to do with each other now. They were so close as kittens.
Little Bee and Will. She's absolutely besotted with him. Follows him everywhere. Constant biffing of face and invitations to play. She'll think nothing of climbing in his bed and sleeping practically on top of him. He pretends to be mildly vexed by the attention but is actually very fond of her too.

Milly having fun with a finished custard pot (both out hounds are BIG custard fans...)
My 12 1/2 year old collie, Rory, had a stroke at the weekend, we think it's his second now. He can barely walk, is hardly eating (most unlike him) and won't drink much. He's going to the vet's again tomorrow and it's not looking good :(
