  • My girlfriend and I want a kitten. Possibly two. I've been scouring Pets4homes, various rescue centres, Gumtree (feels wrong) and breeders websites. We've been looking at Bengals, Maine Coons, Norwegians, British Shorthairs (that's mainly me though), various domestics, but everyone is either just looking to offload their kittens NOW or I don't trust their adverts. We would prefer getting a kitten, not just for the fluffy cuteness but also to be able to raise the little critter, see him/her grow etc etc. Rescue centre is of course an option, but they don't tend to have many kittens.

Anyway, where would the other cat-people on here recommend going?

I can see the obvious appeal of a kitten, though often, people discount cats that are only 5-6 months old, simply because of missing that "cute" stage.

I'll 2nd ( or 3rd ) trying the charities again. Bear in mind that they may have kittens, but as you might imagine, they'll be reluctant to home them around Christmas. You may have more luck in the new year, when all the kittens who were given as Christmas presents are being taken in.

I personally don't like to encourage breeders ( amateur or professional ). There's too many cats that need homing already. Making money by churning out more doesn't sit well with me, having seen some disgraceful behaviour by some of those selling kittens in the past.

Good luck in your search :-)

  • Thanks for the advice, guys.

On my way home now, having met the little one. I met both mum and dad, although mum didn't really like me. The breeder definitely loves her cats, but not having met any breeders before cant really compare to any others. She didn't strike me as too cynical. One thing I did note though, she told me to get the kitten vaccinated at 9 and 12 weeks, but she's letting me pick him up after 8. I read somewhere that they "should" be vaccinated before leaving the breeder? Also, is 8 weeks too early? Most adverts I've seen say 8 though.

    Very pretty!

  • I got my two at 12 weeks, and vaccinated by the breeder's vet. I would say that 8 weeks was too early, and that the breeder should not let them go unvaccinated. Given that they should have the creatures best interest at heart, I am surprised that they would let them go without vaccination. Personally I'd keep looking ...

  • I asked my local cat expert ( Mum ) & she said that the first litters of the year start appearing in February, so if you wait until then you'll be spoilt for choice.

It's cold, but this cat is nicely sorted. Fire-side temperature of it's coat is 48 degrees!

nesbit, vets usually advise that kittens have their first vaccinations at 9 weeks old or thereabouts.

Then the second round of vaccinations 3-4 weeks later.

  • We have 2 interloping cats that ours are too chicken shit to do anything about. Might head down to maplin and source components for a motion activated water pistol death ray

  • that was/is the inspiration

  • will obviously also get my own cats but you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs

I'd usually like to offer a helpful suggestion regarding cats. However, as this is Lfgss, tell your cats to htfu ;-)

  • holly managed to run a whole lap of Richmond park and behaved impeccably all the way, she said hello to several dogs on the way round but kept an eye on me, and as soon as i got 20m or so away she sprinted to cetch up, most of the time she was 1 pace behind me and a friend.

  • ^ What a good girl!

    (Dog not girlfriend, right?)

  • Haven't owned a cat for over six years now. The last one didn't get on with the doberman we had at the time.
Not even sure if it's a boy or a girl - spent most time hiding under the bed.

  • New kitten?!

    Where did you get it?

EEI, can you please do my hair like that?

  • Someone I know had surplus cats and two kittens were left behind - now too big to be cute and sold.

  • A couple of snaps of holly, the first is her sleeping with her eyes open after her run yesterday. the second is her being embarrassed by me with some reindeer antlers that i was given last week!

    Lol!

see pictures above for evidence of Dog-ness

  • She's massive now! And has antler's!

  • I know, who knew that when you crossed breeds of dogs random things like giant red antlers would appear!

She really isn't the mini labradoodle we were sold, but we love her anyway!

  • Higgs is enjoying this game:

James would prefer to be elsewhere:

Tesla seems to think it's quite fun:
