  • You inspired me to groom Higgs, I got off lightly I think- 3 neat parallel scratches down my ribs but nothing else.

I had to cut away quite a lot round her back legs, the "velcro" seeds had made some quite exciting dreadlock type matts.

Do you usually groom your cats whilst naked?

  • You don't?

  • Nope, only the bathroom.

  • You groom your bathroom?

  • That's just plain odd.

  • I mean I sweep the kitchen, but there's a difference.

  • That's just plain odd.

  • Shower heads have gender specific uses.

Is a statement not unrelated to the above discussion.

  • Our cat who we picked up as a stray from our street a year ago, seems to have a relation who likes to hang out in our garden. I reckon its her brother, he has been visiting since even before we took in his sister, but he is INCREDIBLY nervous and frightened.

We like to think of him as a magic cat, because he behaves like some kind of apparition, he gazes into the soul of the person who is there when he appears. A little too far to get a proper look, and vanishes like a ghost before you can get close or call someone else. Yet he keeps visiting and staring at us.

Recently, I managed to feed him a little, but he only came to it after I was well clear. Very nervously sniffing around for AGES before taking a nibble. Reckon he is a genuine stray, his 'sister' who we took in was similarly nervous around shop bought cat food when we took her in. Much more used to gnawing or birds and mice.

I even recently saw "magic cat" with a fully grown rat in his mouth!

  • Food is deffo the best way to build a relationship with a nervy cat. Have you tried anything more tempting than cat food? You might get him a bit closer with tuna or chicken. We did the same with a local stray that visited us for a while. Took about a month or so but eventually we built enough trust to be able to flea and worm him (and give cuddles). Before we fed him he'd leave the garden as we entered.

    Dammit does DIY?

  • Well he claims to. I reckon it's actually his better half but he takes all the credit ;)

  • thanks some ppl who know her well, often say she has two very diffent sides to her

  • Reminds me of the happy / sad theatre masks.

Just seen her David Bowie eyes too ... cool!

  • It can be very difficult to comb cats once they're already matted.

    That they are.

I've just spend two hours trimming the matts off my cat, whom is very patient (she's 13), there was a lots of matts on her neck of which I realised was cause by her collar.

I've removed the collar, six weeks later, still no sight of matts around her neck.

  • was cause by her collar.

Not so much the collar itself as the fact that she cant reach underneath it to groom herself. Not too common though, I've found that most cats tend to go slightly bald under the collar area, regardless of collar or fur type.

  • I've just bought the kittens a super deluxe covered litter tray (with air filters to minimise the pong). It's the first time they've had to use a flap so I wasn't sure if they'd take to this intimidating contraption at all.

Less than five minutes after installing the tray, I returned to find both kittens curled up inside it, on the grit, purring loudly.

I'm delighted they like it. Would be good to see them use it for its intended purpose at some stage though, i.e. TONIGHT.

  • My goodness, what an amazing cat! Does it have a name?

  • fester got a new hat!

Awwww, poor Fester! But so funny and it even matches his eyes.
