I never use them.
You should not kick back on the track, especially so hard you loosen your cog, if you do it's likely to be curtains anyway. -

Hmm thanks, so there's no strict rule then?
I suppose if a decent number people don't use them then likeliness of me being strong enough to undo my cog must be relatively low. I just don't want to cause a pile-up/hurt someone just because I'm too cheap to buy another set of wheels.

Most of the older hire bikes don't have them and I've only seen a few unscrews, and that was people trying to hipster stop on the fence.
Riding in a group in a training session is about gradual movements, not hard stops and no sudden changes in pace (unless you are asked to sprint off the front). Crashes are usually caused by people not paying attention to instruction or losing concentration and touching a wheel.

That makes sense - thanks for the information.

And I imagine HH saturdays must be done for the season by now, not sure if there's been 2 consecutive weeks of wet weather yet, looked damp this morning.

Last week was fine and sunny, so a full Saturday session, but yesterday the track just didn't quite dry out enough, so the morning was called off at 11.30. Planning to continue for another couple of weeks if we get 'perfect' conditions.

ahh Rob JC , when can I come and collect my bike for the winter?
-
• #959
Pretty much any time the track is open. Saturday mornings would be easiest. Friday evenings too.

Funny you ask that Mike, picked mine up yesterday and is now sat on the turbo trainer. Felt a bit sad down there: wet track, cold weather, and just a handful of people. Havent been down since end of August! Oh well, roll on spring!

Cheers Jason, Think I will come down this Saturday then.
I feel exactly the same Tom. Not been there since the league finished and the winter misery is starting to set in :(
Although I quite enjoy the long dark evenings in a weird kind of way -

I'm thinking need to find out if there's still a sprint SQT at Newport on Friday nights.
I'm also thinking work need to send me to Manchester more often, and when I can get some track time. -

Hi Rob.
Whats a sprint SQT?

Sounds good. But is the drive there worth it? How long is it and do you stay over?
-
• #966
I haven't been to one, so not sure how long/how busy. Simon S has been though, reckons it's pretty good. They do efforts behind a bike an ting.
I'm biting the bullet with the driving as it's that or nothing/turbo this winter.

It cheered up a lot once we got the Honda out and warmed the track up a bit! Ouch but it hurt though, really felt my laziness biting me on the arse.

Will anyone with keys be around this weekend?

There is a working party next weekend (13th), when I am going to pick my bike up.
There may also be someone around tomorrow, but next week is a definite.

Cheers Guy,
Next week it is then. What sort of time? -
• #975
I'm gonna head down about lunch time and put in a few hours.
Some people use them, some don't.
Personally I do because I find, especially during the busier HH sessions, that you have to slow quite abruptly on occasions and I'd worry about loosening the cog.
Try it and see how you get on.
