Thanks. A cog is a cog is a cog to me.
I gave you that 15t cog back on Wednesday didn't I? Or was that not actually 15? If not I can bring one round to you on my way home this afternoon if you're about.
Really enjoyed the session today, disconcerting tyre noises aside. Good pace and the sprint exercise was great fun.

Turns out it was 16t.

Loved this mornings session, after track league I wondered if the intermediate session would be too easy
It wasn't, was super fast -

The sprint exercise was fun this morning. I really enjoyed todays session.
Only thinking was when we were sent off in 4s or 6s sometimes the (new) lead rider would put their foot down and I thought it was meant to be more consistent speed with only people slowing down when they peeled off -

This morning's intermediate session was probably one of the best session I've been to for a very long time, I think the coaches got the breaks within the group ride spot on to give time to recover for the next drill ride, plus the sprint drills was really good fun! =)

I had great fun!
Will have a good breakfast and sleep the night before next time, bigger gear too.

What gearing were you on? Souplesse for the win, plus youths are on restricted gears for a reason.
-
• #2935
51x16 for the last session, just want a little more on top of that.

I've felt really comfortable on 90GI for the basic sessions. When I get to inters I might even be tempted to try out a higher gear. Indra HTFU ; )

You HTFU, I was doing basics on sub 80GI completely fine.
-
• #2938
Recommended minimum GI for adults at HH is 84.

hes like 13 yo

Are you required to have a lockring on the track? Would you be refused the ability to race or train if you were found to not have a lockring?
-
• #2941
Read back a little.
-
• #2942
I wouldn't go higher than 51*16 for training. I was on that yesterday and it was fine.
I recommend you ask one of the coaches what the restricted gearing is for your age category. The benefits to technique and avoidance of long term injury are worth it. Plus it shouldn't hamper you. There are juniors scoring points in the A Cats on restricted gears at track league.

No wonder people complain that these sessions are so choppy.

What's the problem? It was a good session yesterday. The groups seemed more controlled than the week before and the pace was good.

What's the problem?
People who think that they need over 90 gear inches to ride an intermediate session would probably be a problem.
-
• #2946
I didn't say I think I need it. I said that I may give it a try. I've been comfortable with my gearing and my control of it so far.
-
• #2947
One person's view only (and would totally defer to RPM), but I've been running 86" at intermediates and have never felt undergeared. Maybe I need bigger guns.
-
• #2948
I'm running 48/15 (84) which might be a touch light but the main thing letting me down was overall fitness (which is being worked on) rather than gearing. Might push up to a 49t if I can find one
-
• #2949
Not sure if it's because i've always time trialled and used to running big gears but run a 93.6 inch gear and dont find it too big.
Obviously it can be a bastard to get going thou -
• #2950
You need to learn to pedal faster. That gear is way too big for public group training sessions at HH.
Amey, I think you'll find the pace is suited to the ability of the riders taking part. I'm sure you'll agree it is more important for beginners to learn good bike skills than to hurtle around fast. Learning to ride a track bike is in a way a bit like learning to walk, before you run. Be patient, the appropriate time for going fast will be with the intermediate sessions, which you may well find test your fitness and bike handling skills further than you can imagine.
