  • It was nice to be back, even if I was nearly blind by the end of the session. I definitely need some glasses that don't just channel the wind straight into my eyes.

The pace was pretty good and I felt I was a bit better equipped to not get spat out of the back than at the end of last summer. Need to work on being right up there at the front at the end of those 30-lap cobweb clearers now.

  • Also, it was nice to properly chat with Erik, and briefly to the speedy chap with the amazing sparkly Samson.

Shout out to the guy doing inters with the baggy purple windbreaker, jeans, Vans and skateboard helmet, who gave up after a laps...I think he was very early for the induction.

  • good seeing you tom!
2x40 miles yesterday and another 55 today. I had nothing in the end, especially no contact with fingers and toes. It's real sweet not having to sink your feet into the infield mud anymore.

'Dale looks great with that Zipp too, Erik.

Will hopefully manage to relace the rear wheel to match it next week!

  • Was it me or was it super fast thus morning? Can remember a session being that quick, especially when it's sooooo cold

my garmin says 36.4 kmh average speed which is in line with some of the fastest sessions in the previous years.
Thanks again to Conor who helped me fix the puncture even if he had frozen hands!

  • Semi-glad I wimped out and opted for seeing my siblings for lunch today if it was fast as I'm pretty sure I'd be the least fit person on the track. In 2 weeks I'll 'definitely' be there.
    (Hopefully)

  • 36.4? What's that in old money?

  • 22ish

  • I only used the Garmin for the part of the session after the break, in the 'fast' group till I nearly went blind with 5 laps to go, and that was 15 miles at 23mph. Not too shabby considering the cold.

  • Was a good crack yesterday, I went for the induction. Back next Saturday for sure.

  • Average speed was high for the 90 odd minutes on track but then there was also longer, more constant (steady speed) drills rather than, say, 2 up sprints or seated accelerations which fuck your legs but lower your average speed......

....But yeah, i thought it was quick and was impressed with the form everyone seemed to have after such a shit long winter. Also impressive was the order of it all having only ridden alone or with 2 or 3 guys for the last 5 months. Straight into pairs on the blue before a coach was anywhere in sight. I guess there are 3 more weeks before new graduates join from yesterday's induction.

  • There were 2 young VC Londes lads who were flying around. Thought they'd have been on limited gear

  • Not wishing to disillusion anybody but the Velo Club de Londres youngsters were on restricted gears. Ouch! As for the fast pace in the season opener – it was too cold to ride slowly. Being safe with a steady pace was the order of the day. We will leave muscle tears until it gets warmer.

There were six coaches on duty - only one could fit into his coaching top ... just.

Praise to the beginners/ novice training riders. Six laps in a snowstorm, one rider in football shorts and a T-Shirt - why??????

  • Shit, definitely coming out this sat.

Will be in shorts and a jersey, if I ride my own bike what's the gearing restriction?

  • 66:11

  • I was expecting everyone at intermediates to be a bit rusty after the break, it made me feel very rubbish dropping off the back a lot. It was not as much fun as I remember in the summer!

The garmin info makes me feel slightly better that at least it was a fast practise, but looking forward to this weekend session

That would be me. I overdosed on HTFU before I left*

    *didn't check the weather.

  • So the juniors were on a 66" gear? ffs they didnt seem to be spinning that much
    The youth of today eh?

  • The two youngest (12 & 13) were on a 80.6"

    That's my road ratio, lovely.

Being safe with a steady pace should always be the order of the day for that session.

If its "too cold" to ride steadily then you're wearing the wrong clothing. Shorts when it's under 10 degrees is questionable. When it's near freezing, shorts are simply moronic.

  • My intention is to be inducted this Saturday.

In true primary school fashion, I'm going to do it in my pants. :)
