It made me chuckle if that's any consolation.

I can't figure out why people would want to train on an outdoor velodrome through winter...
Cos it's fun! I seem to recall using the track all year round back in the 80s on the old, old surface - tarmac + weeds - but then in those days people used to eat white dog poo and asbestos and think nothing of it.
Think I'll get some overshoes on and go for a ride.

Are the beginner sessions still on? The website's google calendar doesn't list them but they are in the 2010 weekly events table pdf thingy. I am unsure, presuming they aren't. I just want to pop down and have a looksie (but if there's only mtb and road biking going on I'll probably pass)
Edit: (Upon reading further up the thread more thoroughly I'm almost certain it's a no. is a waste of space)

A big session today at Bournemouth velodrome has been cancelled because their track (with the same surface as ours) won't dry out in time. It hasn't even rained.

as it did me, but after the footy thread, did you really think I'd be in on that?

wondered if you were anyhere near the track sat? I was.gutted becasue I was there for the session. did ride for fun at 12.30 but that was long after the sessions had been binned
sat was loads of condensation from mist, no one is going to risk sending groups onto slippery lines, (lines an issue in themselves!)
were finding that the track dosent dry out in these cold temps, and strangely that as its porous tarmac, theres the very real chance that its staying wet from underneath- if its pissed down on the exterior slopes all night/ days before then moisture can stay clos to the surface from underneath.
one of our expert builder/ trackies reckons they needed to have put down an impermeable membrane before laying tarmac, guv.
what are HH findin issues are so far? -

Similar issue here. Even though it hasn't rained for ages, the mist and damp air is leaving the track wet for most, if not all of the day. With some parts being fine but others unridable.
Difference for us is the trees that block the sun from it's short chance to do any drying, you don't have that problem at Bournemouth.

Does anyone know if the ladies sessions are good to go today?
-
• #1886
I think it's on as it hasn't been reported to be off. Come down!

That makes sense. There were times last winter when London bits were pleasant enough but you're ankle deep in brown liquid by the time you got to Sevenoaks. Honest.
My shoes were never the same again.
