  • Ok well I was lurking today, at HHYCC with my kid...
Spotted spag, J, adt, 6pt... Managed to blatantly not spot a load of you.

Is 10-11 the easiest-going session? I may be able to join if I can trust my kid to be good on the trails without me hanging around watching him...

  • But he was wearing several items of Rapha!?!?
Does that not count for ANYTHING???

    At the track?

I thought Rapha didn't 'do' track?

  • At the track?

I thought Rapha didn't 'do' track?

    Teenslain: Breakin' boundaries since 1960-something.

  • So is the beginners session 10am-11 or what?

  • that's intermediates. Beginners is 12:45 til 2

  • with induction from 12 til 12:45

  • Or should I say NOVICE?

  • and the beginners session is £6 not the £5 it says on their website.

  • Aha! Thanks h.

  • I enjOyed the session yesterday, was nice to see some familiar faces again, and lovely day for it. The sprints at the end of a couple of exercises were pretty fast, but there were a handful of wed league A cat rides training!

  • Not for long. Sunday training officially starts on 3rd April - so advanced riders should all be there.

  • Agreed. I actually had to do a little skid to avoid colliding with the person in front at one point. How to people find it so hard to ride at a constant speed?

what about the poor sod behind you when you were skidding on the track?

none of those trackies could handle 90 hilly miles and the cobbles. :-)

  • I'm very tempted to start offering child minding services in the summer.

    ££$$$££$£$£$£$

  • ^^I was behind sumo and also did a little pop skid, luckily the person behind me wasnt close at all

  • Exactly, there was no way was I gonna gonna get on the wheel in front of me just so that I'd have to take evasive action every time the bunching up on the back straight started... Load of bollocks... Still a bit pissed off, it ruined the session for me and I waited around for ages (and paid £6) to get on... Oh well...
    blows raspberry

  • Thats what happend when you have so many people on the track at once. Also even tho it was the 'beginner' group the ability of everyone was very different.
We were in with people who were riding on the track and riding fixed for the first time ever and then people who were more accomplished at riding fixed.
Maybe it should have been split up into two groups....

  • Apart from skidding also being bad for the track surface, in its rapidly decaying state, you people need to fucking use some muscles and kick back whilst sitting the fuck down.

It's depressing that people lack the co-ordination and biomechanical self-awareness it takes to ride a steady tempo :(

  • How to people find it so hard to ride at a constant speed?
I will tell you all what happens when a bunch is riding round the track:

As the riders enter the banking (turns) it slows them down as they are essentially riding uphill.
As the riders **exit **the banking it speeds them up as they are now essentially riding downhill.

Therefore, in order for the bunch to maintain an EVEN SPEED the riders **must pedal harder when riding ****into the banking **and **softer **(soft pedal) when exiting the banking. Experienced riders know this and do it without realising, novices either don't know this or don't always remember to do it.

When the riders at the front forget to ride like this, it transmits along the bunch and becomes more pronounced at the back, becoming almost unrideable.
If riders simply ride at what "feels" like a constant pace the track will be slowing them down then speeding them up, the problems occur when the riders behind try to compensate by speeding up to catch then kicking back when they are slowing.
The responsibility is there for ALL riders to press on in the turns and not speed up on the exit and straight.

    waves back.

  • I didn't have a lock or any cash and I didn't really want the bar staff seeing me in lycra... It's my local after all... ;]

You failed at that too. We* saw you wandering towards Sainsbury's looking like a condom full of conkers.

*Me and half the regent staff who were eating in Mimosa.

  • I'd throw a fucking tantrum if anyone did a skid in front of me on the track.

That's it, I'm starting smoking again...

Horse? Roberts looked lovely btw, although from your immense speed past the parade of shops, I didn't see the cracks...
