  • Oh God, now we're getting lots of 504s in posts, too. Where is it going to end?

  • 505

  • tatical nukes on the mumsnet hq

  • @Velocio things are slow again this evening, and more of the error messages too

  • Me too, forum can't find my "Following".

  • It's been 504's for me the last the couple of days too.

  • And then it starts working for me, go figure...

  • @Velocio
Is there any reason for the slow forum and error messages?

  • Nope.

We have noticed an increase in errors since the beginning of the month, and an increase in memory use since the 15th, and an increase in latency since the 19th.

But... though we have been deploying code nothing that we have deployed explains this.

We wonder whether we've just gone past the next magic number whereby we're using more RAM than we have or something due to increased busy-ness.

We're looking into it, but have no immediate answer.

  • More no forum fun...

  • Now this is taking the piss. Does the forum know when I complain and then....

  • Itz not fun, tiz srs bznis

  • @Velocio

About one page in five takes ages to open or results in an error message right now.

  • If this is just you, and given that you're one of the people on the ignore experiment... could you share the URLs of the slow items with me (via PM if you want) as it might be related to the ignore feature.

  • It's been for a few days, so even prior to the new feature coming into effect.

I will send you links when problems arise.

  • It's not just dj....

  • @Velocio

I'll email them as when the forum ain't working I can't access PMs. Spotted thread just spat me out.

  • @Velocio

I even got an error posting my message above.

  • It's everyone, 504 every now and then, as if the server is slow to respond.

  • "Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at http://www.lfgss.com.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

  • The forum will hang for me on most pages when I first click a thread or next page. The progress bar goes about 25% across then stops. I have to click again and then it works fine. Sometimes doesn't load though and I get the 504 message.

  • As per DJ, roughly 1 page in 5 hangs or error message for me too.

  • I've had 'APIException' errors, which I've never had before.

You're seeing this error because you have DEBUG = True in your Django settings file. Change that to False, and Django will display a standard 500 page.

I have saved a copy of the whole page that appeared as an error message, in case that's interesting, although I suspect it probably isn't.

  • (Also various 500s, 504s, one 505, and 502s, too, I think.)

@Velocio this is my experience too... either slow to load or 504 message, although refreshing usually loads the page immediately.
