  • anyone know anything about 731/731OS? Is it like 631 but even stiffer/harder?

I know reynolds do a touring version of 631 which has slightly thicker walled tubes for load carrying. I believe some track bikes are/were produced from this as its improved strength pressumably also makes it well suited to velodrome use. Think it might have been called 731, but I'm not sure TBH.

  • 501 made its debut in 1983, you sure?

the reynolds tubing numbers aren't chronological. 653 came out after 753, for instance.

i think that it may not have been stiffer or stronger as it's no longer being produced whereby 631 is still available to frame manufacturers.

  • I'm saying 501 is a lot older than that...

  • I'm saying 501 is a lot older than that...

from what i've found, 501 was introduced in 1983 to meet the demands of a cheaper steel for more general applications and larger production volumes.

  • Really? I could swear I've seen frames from the 60s/70s made from 501..

  • ^ no chance.
    731 - 1992 Heat treated, 731 OS came out a bit later.
Both short-lived (I think 853 came out soon after.)

  • Scuse my french then.

  • Repent!
You never, know, these british comanies are shit at sequencing:
    501 531 525 725 753 731 853 953 631 653 666 456 103. WTF?!

  • That Reynolds WTF is some pimped up shit.

  • I want a reynolds 666 decal.
