Nagasawa frame on eBay saga and doubts

  • Hello,

I am quite new to these forums but I've been in London long enough to appreciate the joys and pains of riding in this city.
To make a long story a bit shorter, I recently had my bike brutally raped by some random people as you can see FUCK YOU. No, really, GO FUCK YOURSELF on Flickr - Photo Sharing!@@AMEPARAM@@http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3288/3299279812_d781bbe1d2.jpg?v=0@@AMEPARAM@@3299279812@@AMEPARAM@@d781bbe1d2. It was nothing too fancy, but quite a good ride until it lasted.
So being on the market for a new frame, three days ago I won an eBay auction for this beautiful white sparkle Nagasawa 53cm at 390 quid (pics here). (also found on these forums).
Though now I have something of a problem, since the guy who was selling it contacted me right after I won the auction, asking to cancel the sale because the frame was "accidentally badly scratched along the top tube" just the day before the auction ended (closeup pics herefor the curious).
As I said to the guy, I really don't mind too much about those scratches and I am still willing to pay the full ending price of the auction (390 quid). I am trying since two days to arrange a meeting for the exchange (London manual delivery was an option on eBay, so I think he's in London) but he's sort of giving me a hard time and I still haven't managed to meet him... even after asking three consecutive times "where and when" we could meet I keep getting pretty vague replies.
I could post the whole email/SMS thread, but I guess this info gives already an idea.
I have an odd feeling about this... What would you do? Would you end the auction? Any similar past experiences or does anyone know him here?

    Cheers,
    tommaso

  • Pulls Up Deckchair and Opens Popcorn.

  • This one's gonna be a real humdinger, Chrissy-boy... rubs hands

  • Hussy was posting on here just yesterday non? £390 was cheap.

  • maybe he just doesn't want to let it go for that price and is being a tricky bastard.
    what's his username on ebay?

  • yeah he got greedy.. this could be a tale of greed, corruption, scrarches and pay pal charges.. a classic!

  • i'll buy the scratches if you split. NJScratches

  • This one's gonna be a real humdinger, Chrissy-boy... rubs hands

Think I need to open a book on the outcome of this one

  • on second inspection thats a cut and shove! i'll take it off your hands and save you the future pain

  • I really want leave the benefit of doubt. I care more about getting the frame than finding out tricks. I can forgive :-)

  • yeah he got greedy.. this could be a tale of greed, corruption, scrarches and pay pal charges.. a classic!

this could be an interesting plot twist in the fixed gear period drama Clefty was planning...

  • I would like around £700 for the frame & forks with headset and BB
For complete build I would like around £1000

    hmm.
An ebay sale is a contract, Hussy.
£300 starting price which scares off bidders, makes his fees higher, and no reserve, which means he's got to sell it to you for the winning bid.
If he'd started it at a quid it probably would have made twice that.

  • maybe he just doesn't want to let it go for that price and is being a tricky bastard.
    what's his username on ebay?

This would be my guess as well.
If it is the case then he doesn't have a leg to stand on and is (by law) obligated to give you the frame*. Go and meet him in person and check over the frame thoroughly before agreeing to take it.
*Don't quote me on this, check it out in ebay terms and conditions.

  • sounds like the seller is a cunt.
    a double cunt in-fact.
was he not trying to sell this on here for way too much money the other day?

  • Was it the same frame? Thought it looked different...

  • there's loads of those white sparkly nags knocking about

  • Did somebody say Costume Drama? Bagsy I get to play the Parson. I want trouser clips and an Edwardian fixie.

  • Actually, just had a look at both, and it does look like the same one. This guy is obviously pissed that it's gone for so cheap!

  • I've bought and sold stuff on eBay but I'm far from being a veteran there. I know there's a contract in place, but can anyone point to something specific that I may refer to?

  • Pass the popcorn, Chrissy-boy... It's gonna be a bumpy night... *snuggles into the settee"

  • Greed FAIL. It's an auction and a winning auction is a contract, sorry pal but looks like our man here's getting a nice cheap Japanese frame. Good luck with that Tommaso.

EDIT: Actually that's about right for a tangle of welded metal tubing.

  • I'd raise the fact he knew the scratch was there and didn't mention it in the original note, if you paid £700+ and found that scratch once delivered how would he react then??

  • Pass the popcorn, Chrissy-boy... It's gonna be a bumpy night... *snuggles into the settee"

make it salty Chris..... *re-arranges pillows and spoons Teens

  • Thanks for all the comments. To be honest though, no matter how cheap it went, it was well advertised here as well... and was on eBay for three days when I found it. There was plenty of time for the price to skyrocket if that wasn't the current market value for that frame. Blame the global crisis?
