  • Well here's my restored 7625 from March 1969. Richard Askham http://thewatchspotblog.com/ did all the work and was an absolute gent throughout the whole process. I think you'll agree that this watch has now become quite astounding compared to the shoddy mess it was a couple of months ago, it's also keeping perfect time. Enjoy:

  • This arrived this morning;

  • Very nice indeed.

  • That Seiko is lovely, very much to my taste.

  • ^^Thanks - I really like it, been after a gold dress watch for ages and spotted this 1960's Max Bill on Ebay.

I'd like to get it checked out to see if its legit and in the condition the seller claimed inside. Not that I have any reason to be suspicious, but better safe than sorry - anyone have any recommendations?

  • Lovely Seiko and Jungans.

  • ^^ Thanks and ^ thanks! It's a rare one and has been a labour of love but they don't come up very often :)

  • Yep. I know it's not exactly out of the ordinary but whatever.

How can you expect 'out of the ordinary' when swatch make something like 60% of movements? All the top watch manufacturers have been buying it because its been so good for so long.

Any shots from after the work was completed?

  • I've made my mind up, about to shell the coin out on this puppy:

  • How much ? Very nice . Not a moon watch tho ( sorry ! )

  • Is that a Japanese variant? It's not a common dial.

  • That was a uk dial ,now discontinued , same era as the yellow and red " Schumaker " dials .

Ah. I didn't like those Shoemaker dials, purely because of the driver in connection.

Ha! Here's one from before the work was done and one from after as a comparison. Lume was shot, crystal scratched to hell, bezel cracked through, case covered in scuffs and scratches, chrome plating had completely worn off the crown, movement was corroded but luckily not too badly although some parts did need replacing:

    After

  • Holy balls. Is that a new bezel, or did you have it laser welded?

  • ^ I managed to track down a NOS bezel. It wasn't easy!

  • VanUden, was there any particular reason you had it repaired, rather than just buying a better one off Ebay? Don't get me wrong, it's fantastic to see the watch brought back to life, just curious.

Good question! Two reasons, first being that I liked the idea of bringing something back to life that was on the verge of going in the bin. And second being that because of the serial numbers Seiko use you can date a watch to not only year but also month of manufacture - this one was made in the same year and month I was born :)

  • It's also nice to have something that's freshly serviced rather than relying on a previous owner.

  • Amazing work Mr Uden, looks very handsome now.

  • ^ Thank you!

  • Bill Amberg Watch Roll
