I'm sure it looks even nicer in the flesh

Anything would look better than that pic tbh, the Fratello article has some nice shots of them.

Nice! I was just about to checkout via Sakura but PayPal's conversion rate takes it from $395 to $451 and for some reason that feels like less of a deal... So I am gonna sleep on it.

Just needs the GMT in that size

Literally no reason they couldn’t, it’d just be a shade thicker. Waiting for an SKX style 5 Sports one in a 38-40mm size. Again, no reason they can’t - see the more expensive Navigator Timer reissue - I guess it’s just getting a bit niche.

The UK RRP of £510 or whatever it is does feel a bit punchy, I have to say, given we’re still in stamped end link and hardlex crystal territory.
I never let PayPal do the conversion btw. I always make them charge my card in whatever the currency is, letting the bank doing it always gives a significantly better rate IME.

Same re not accepting conversion at the time of purchase.

It didn’t give me any other options- as I am very much the same. Never let it do so. But this time it looked different. I’ll try again…

Is that the answer?!.. I’ve never known what option to take when using a card abroad and faced with the choice.

Usually they use that "uncertainty" to trick you in accepting that (usually) higher conversion rate on the spot. People seem to love the fact that "that's it, that's the amount".
Some banks/apps/sites usually give you that as a default option and that alone, for me, it's a sign that's a trap.
I think once I noted down the amount offered and then verified later what was actually taken and there was a noticeable difference (I saved), but, as usual, YMMV

Over here you can hold multiple different currencies in your account at the same time, topping one up when the other change rate makes it attractive. Then when you are making a purchase in that currency it automatically uses the correct one.

Revolut also does this super easily.

Connoisseur's choice, pretty much the perfect G-Shock.

Anyone fancy the OG forum watch? £50 with original box and papers, worn a handful of times so pretty much as new.

Yeah, depending on your plan. I think the higher plans are basically unlimited but I'm sure there's some fair usage clause.

I still have this 5600 up for grabs as well. Brand new and unworn:

What's the forum value recommendation when it comes to field watches? Currently looking at Seiko SRPG, Timex Expedition, Hamilton Khaki and Military Watch Co. Something sub £300 would be great to have as a dressier option between my Gshock and my Seiko sub

Depends if you want mechanical. At that price, if you do, it's mostly Seiko.
For me a field watch should be sub-38mm, ideally 35-37mm. The smaller (36.5mm) SRPJ Seiko 5s are a great release in that genre, I think:
https://www.seikoboutique.co.uk/product/seiko-5-desert-kit-midfield-sports-style-srpj83k1/
https://www.seikowatches.com/uk-en/products/5sports/srpj81Very similar to the SRPGs, just smaller.
The 38mm Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical is a minor classic but I'd have thought would be out of budget, and the new quartz ones (38 and 34mm) have a different dial that I'm personally not as keen on.
A leftfield choice would be trying to find a quartz Seiko SUS reissue (35mm), eg https://www.sakurawatches.com/seiko-selection-sus-design-reprint-model-nano-·-universe-special-edition-scxp155 from one of the Japanese exporters like Sakura.
I have one in the dark grey case colour that I love. They need a strap upgrade from stock though.

I like that - very clean.
I was after a similar watch for a similar budget and ended up buying a cheap and pretty well-worn 8260, which makes a great beater. I guess a bit like a g10 but with better water resistance.

Hahaha, I was passing on my way to the supermarket, had five minutes to spare, and remembered they sell Seiko. And as luck would have it, there it was. Happy to help my boy @JB out.
