  • We're not starting a club. We're starting a movement.

  • What's your excuse? Mine is that I need a weekday function, but none of my watches with one look very good.

  • We're starting a movement.

    quartz or automatic?

  • Surely Breitling and Omega need a swap?

    Why?

When I think about my old counterparties* who wore Breitlings, they were 100% in the fun camp and probably need a decent bump (no pun intended) up that scale.

Also proper lol at the idea of Lange owners being fun. The closest you get are those bankers with no chat who believe buying lots of drinks gives them the charisma of a broker.

The Apples watch is in the middle only by virtue of it being such an unbelievably popular and classless/unpretentious watch.

*mainly dodgy IFAs or "introducers" or other sales-adjacent people.

  • What about Patek owners? I only know of 2. One is Putin and the other is a New Yorker who's been a VIP Patek customer since he was a teenager. He's always being interviewed by arselickers. He really believes that dropping $17 million on a watch is an achievement. So is being invited by Patek to a dinner where he talks to a Hollywood actor. Imagine thinking that shopping with Daddy's money is a career.

  • Thank you for spotting that :) Alas, I'm not sure we'll be welcome in either clan - too mucky for the purists, too extravagant for the quartz qrew.

@nick_h. - I'm too tragic to even have an excuse. Proper golf club bait. I wanted the watch as an activity tracker, and it's handy for life stuff as well, but I didn't enjoy using it as a watch, so I've turned the screen off to keep it as unobtrusive as possible (ie not much) and as a bonus the battery now lasts a whole 2 days.

  • Ah alas. I know of others...

  • If scaled around apple watches everything should be above that.

  • We've also had a Smiths phase.

Timefactors is more difficult to buy than Rolex these days.

  • What could be more fun than yet another device to let you know about that email?

  • This...
All of those in the top right are insufferable

Cept maybe JLC but that's cause noone buys jlc to know if they're also insufferable.

  • People who wear Cartier, in my experience anyway, are certainly exciting to be around

Awwwwww! Thanks man! [❤️heart gif❤️] you too!

(suspect you'll retract that now 😂)

  • I didn’t know you followed West Ham Iain.

  • I follow all the hams, ham is tasty.

  • I'm going to be traveling soon internationally for a while so obviously it's piqued my interest in GMTs.

What's ppls suggestions on them? The cheapest answer is to use my steinhart that I faded the Pepsi bezel.
What has tickled ppl on here? I also don't mean rolex cause that can't be explained on a whim.
Timex has just released a lovely looking jamesbrand colab
Also there's the Seiko 5 gmt

  • I think the majority of GMTs are surprisingly shit looking. Imo they should have a quick set hour hand and display the home time, not the local time. Also I think dual(sp?) time is better than GMT. But it only seems to be really spendy watches that do this.

Grand Seiko GMT Superquartz model SBGN027G looks good. Also the Seiko 5 field watches Seiko 5 Sports SSK023K1 And SSK025K1. If you can find one I really like the time factors one.

  • Speaking of GMTs I really like the new Seiko one, looks great on a fabric strap too

  • The casioak can be set to show another time in the digital window. However, because they gave it zero thought it can't easily be set to be a home time.

... Which I feel is a great eg of the typical shit functionality of 2nd time zones.

When you think about what you want from a second time zone in a watch...

    1. Easy to set to your new time zone.
    2. Quick and low effort to read your home timezone.
    3. Not shit looking.

    Literally 3 criteria.

  • Left field. But do like.

Also some Frederique Constant GMTs look clean.

  • Not the canonical GMT as it's two 12-hours scales, but I really like the Sinn 144 Ti.

  • The Seiko presage GMT is rather nice

  • Eyeing this Citizen. Tempted. 39.5mm wide, 9mm thick, titanium and 100m wr for €350. Just wish it came in the white like the mechanical 40mm variant.

  • That is one of my ultimate, eventual purchases..

Been almost pulling the trigger for years

Bit of a chonker but I love the dial
