Also, I think if you look at where Rolex retail prices are now compared to some of their competitors who really milked the pandemic price rises, they’re starting to look like good value.

A friend has had a sub, an explorer and a sea dweller via LHR rolex in the last eighteen months. He kept the sub and sea dweller and a colleague bought the explorer. I don’t know whether there’s some different dynamic at an airport retailer - less people going on a waiting list as it’s harder to just pop back but it’s worked out for him. Also every time it’s been “you have to pick it up within five days or you lose it” and if they find out you’re flipping them you’re out too.

If I could buy an explorer at retail I would do so.

So beautiful.

Does this mean he has to book a flight to collect it, or can you access the shops without going through check-in?

You have to book a flight and go through controls, so being on their list is a bit more problematic - not massively so but I wonder if it all just puts people off. My friend has had a couple of very short notice, cheap as possible flights.

What's the most popular watch for members of this thread to own do we think - Speedmaster? A Seiko 5 of some description?
I ask because we've had quite a significant number of Explorer 2's seemingly in recent months (including me).

It's an incredibly influential thread.. with total brand unawareness rolex would win but when you're in that big gun territory it's got to be a flex of personal choice

It’s the smaller one and I think I’d prefer the larger one IIRC.

I wondered if it’s the modern interpretation in its various guises. Loads of us have had them but not kept them long.
-
• #77747
I reckon it’s the G Shock Casioak - clear plastic version for preference. Closely followed by something Seiko and then possibly Ray Mears or the Tissot TRX

Qué?
For sure. And once the new factories come online that will accelerate even more. I think it’s just gradually drifting back to when a steel Daytona was tough to get but most other stuff wasn’t really an issue. Rolexes held their value but didn’t appreciate so much that it encouraged flipping.
