  • Hah, fair enough. Will they become cheaper second hand than their are at RRP then? We seem to be close to that at the moment for some watches.

  • With the slowdown in prices for luxury goods do we think the day of being able to walk into an AD and buy an Explorer will appear in ‘24?

    Yes. Might have already happened.

  • Very unlikely, to be off the shelf or preowned cheaper than new.
But waits will be less and the mad prices on the grey market are a thing of the past IMHO .

  • I mean, who knows. I really don't.

There has definitely been a big shift this year. I was expecting the new Rolex factories opening up to be the big difference maker but a lot of people simply don't have the money sloshing around anymore that they did during the lockdown/bitcoin weirdness and it's quite possible that we go back to where we were circa 2018/19 where Subs and GMTs were waitlisted but Explorer IIs, Air-Kings, Milgauses etc were widely available.

FWIW there was always the odd chance that you could walk in, catch them on a good day and there'd be a steel sports watch that had come in that was allocated to someone who didn't pick the phone up when they got the call. It did and does happen.

  • I just want a green OP36 before they discontinue it.

  • Any feedback on a vintage Twin Quartz Superior?

  • Beach today

  • Did you dive?

  • Nope but our feet did get wet

  • By a stark contrast, I just pick up an old Rotray from my grandad, which was gifted to him by British Steel in the 70’s in Wales, he kept it till he die recently.

  • Merry Christmas to you and all the rest that make this group a great one! Enjoy! ⭐🌲⭐

  • Very nice, I have my Grandads old watch which was from the AA Memostar with Alarm function.

I had it serviced etc and still wear it now 13 years on, great to have things like that to remember them as time passes so quickly!

  • Lovely.. As the bloody fool who realised after he'd cleared out a house that I'd chucked out my great grandfather's signet ring, wear with love.

  • Happy Christmas chums

  • Happy Christmas all🎅🎅🎅

  • Has everyone here seen this? If not, here's a real Christmas present of a link; one of the most impressive pages on the net: https://ciechanow.ski/mechanical-watch/

  • Happy Christmas folks.

  • Indeed a happy and merryful Christmas 🎁

  • After wearing the tiny Rotary manual watch, it become extremely apparent just how wearable if is compare to modern day gigantic watches that’s 38mm+.

There’s something nice about a classic dress watch that’s less than 36mm and only 8mm thick completely disappearing on your wrist yet very readable.

  • It's almost like there was a golden age when manufacturers thought about design instead of feature-led sales.

(obvs I realise the watch face is advertising the number of jewels, movement, country of fabrication so twas ever thus)

  • Yep, I only wear this little Citizen now because it’s so much comfier than anything else I own/have owned. Very much over the modern watch game for this reason. A 36mm Explorer or OP would be the only modern watch I’d consider buying at this point I think. But even then - they’re not great leather strap watches IMO so I probably wouldn’t bother…
