Back from Rolex service centre and with a fresh strap from the strap tailor. Even though it’s not got the Arabic numerals anymore it has polished up well given it’s lived a hard life.
Update on the dial, they don’t make them anymore and to reinstate the old one would have been a health hazard and would have affected the running of the watch…….. which is almost certainly BS but there you go

Nice!
Mines been back a week since service at Calibre and being worn constantly, it is now sporting an oyster bracelet, not sure I’m sold on it yet, but the jubilee is really stretched now. Sleeping cat in background!

I do really like that.

Without knowing how it looked with the previous bracelet I’d say it looks good!

Ooh, that’s good. I might steal that. I wanted to use some variant of “flat top four” but nothing was available.
“watchyourtype” is a bit shit really, it’s not a very good pun on “what’s your type?” But I couldn’t think of anything else at the time and IG said I could change it later.

So! The "what's it worth" graph on Chrono24 says ÂŁ8,500, the seller wants ÂŁ10,250.
Who has valued it correctly?

• #72012
Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If you do, it is what it's worth

• #72013
^That's a textbook example of what "begging the question" actually means.

Yeah, I did - they responded saying that they'd knock ÂŁ350 off.
Feels like there's still quite a distance between what Chrono24 says the watch is worth and what the dealer wants for it.
-
• #72016
And I'm aware that the fine people of this thread always say that the Chrono24 values are over enthusiastic.
= I don't want to pay the "wrong" price.
-
• #72017
But the point is, who’s to say? Why should anyone here know what it’s worth, any more than the C24 algorithm or the seller?
The only thing that’s certain is that if the seller leaves the “suggest a price” option on, they’re not expecting too many people to hit buy without making a lower offer.
If you don’t want to overpay you probably need to be patient and wait for the right piece at the right price. Or pay more and get it now. Another truism of online marketplaces.

Funnily, isn't that what I just said?
-
• #72019
Well, one thing is that I imagine that there's a reason that people on this thread say that the C24 value charts are too high. Seems a consistent view here.
Second thing is that the C24 values are all going down - so more of a concern to pay the "correct" price than when the market was going up.
Third thing - and the main thing - I don't know what it means to overpay, as I don't know what these are worth, which is why I'm asking for people who know more about this to take a shot at saying what they think is the correct value.

Funnily, isn't that what I just said?
No, what you said doesn't make sense (in English, the language I assumed you were writing in).

Re read my statement. It was garbage. I cant talk and type at the same time.
Blah blah...
Buy it. Be happy!

Now better?

-
• #72024
Anyway, I guess this does highlight that if you don't know the value of something you probably shouldn't buy it, so I'll park this endeavour.

• #72025
I don’t know if I’ve ever said that the C24 valuations are universally high, they probably are in many cases but I think they can get really distorted by individual transactions and in general I think they’re quite a vague guide, and condition affects individual prices massively. C24 does not have many condition ratings and what people will put in “very good” can vary wildly.
So it is what it is, a guide. I think ten thou is probably too much but others may not. It is a dealer watch and they are always more expensive (plus they probably overpaid when they acquired it).
Very useful - thanks.
