  • I feel that automatic Speedmasters are kind of a different thing to the manual wound 321/861-based (+ 1861/3861, etc) models, and are less interesting to me personally, but I know a lot of people like the Speedmaster Reduced models for the smaller case diameter.

The Valjoux/ETA 7750 layout (with the subdials at 12/6/9 and date at 3) creates a less pleasing design than the classic no-date Speedmaster 3/6/9 layout IMHO.

Also, in general, automatic winding is going to add 2mm+ to the thickness of a watch, and smaller diameter + increased thickness can end up changing the proportions of a watch in a negative way. Auto chronographs are notoriously thicc bois.

The vintage-correct Zeniths might be worth a look for auto+date and not being oversized. I quite like the Zenith A384, but they're pretty much the price of the new Speedmaster '57.

  • There's a 40mm version of the speedmaster racing - discontinued a few years ago but you can still get nearly new versions and has the 3-6-9 subdials and a date and a better bracelet (and a nice integrated rubber strap). Quite a few colours too inc a (reverse?) panda.

  • Omega do currently offer a 38mm automatic Speedmaster with applied indices in a range of colours (not just "pink it and shrink it" variants).

  • That's quite an interesting one, I remember seeing the other color schemes and being put off by the oval date window. Interesting they're only using this shape on this particular color scheme.

I might have a look at one in real life, found a shop nearby who stocks it apparently. The dial seems to have a little sunburst effect as well which is a nice touch.

    Thanks!

  • Yeah, on this colourway the subdial surrounds are round rather than oval as well.

I read on the Omega forums that the dial isn't sunburst, more a satin finish, but it does look like there's something going on there.

  • Looks quite bell & Ross in that photo

  • That was my immediate thought too.

  • Yeah another important difference indeed. Not sure why they went with the oval design on all those other color combinations, looks terrible imo.

Looks very balanced on the wrist in that photo.

  • Ovals seem to be part of Omega’s current design language for “feminine”. They do the same on the Aqua Terra line.

  • Do I have any chance at getting a no date current version sub at retail? If not what’s a good price for grey market?

  • sub at retail

    lol

  • A sales rep - sorry, "Rolex Ambassador" - told me that nowadays they might let you buy one as your third Rolex purchase. And you can only be on the waiting list for one at a time.

  • How off putting.

  • But they only sell Submariners

  • Worn and Wound's Wind Up Watch Shop are now selling Paulin in the U.S., and have a limited edition available. Very nice, but not $530 nice IMO. Which is the same price as the standard editions, but still, too pricey I think.

  • It’s up to you, nothing impossible but it’s a long journey..

Find the right sales rep, prove your local and you love watches, be tenacious without being too much, show interest, give your motivations etc etc..

It’s how it works unfortunately, if it’s not for you then go grey..

Grey of AD, a no date sub is a hell of a watches whatever the references 5512/5513/14060/114060/124060..

  • Nice colourway.

I dunno about the price, they’re not fancy watches, and not enamel of course, but the dial still involves multiple hand processes.

  • Guess I'm comparing it to the price of ordering directly from the UK, which shouldn't incur VAT. Which would be 316GBP. Which is $380.

But ya know, you all get fucked when ordering American products so maybe its about time American's get fucked when ordering stuff from the UK, too!

  • Ha! Payback for all those Chris King headsets.

  • I like that, I had one for a while and enjoyed it.
    My favourite automatic speedmaster.

  • Latest Casioak is absolutely mint

  • Definitely. It seems to be almost white most of the time with a slight hue of pink. I would if I had darker skin tone.
