The Timex Flyback looks great (especially for the price) the fact that they have used what looks like Frankfurter medium as the typeface annoys me though. Mind you, it's still less special looking than the overly large numerals on the Bell & Ross (I know pilots and g-forces and other marketing mumbo jumbo)

Very tasty Festus. I'll add the one on the right to the consideration list. I get to look like this too:
Can't see your image Ordinata...Timex Flyback is too crowded for me. Just want h:m:s and maybe date really. Cheers for the suggestion though Lowpug.

Soo, I haven't worn a watch since I was about 15, don't really feel comfortable with any form of jewelry or stuff on my wrists in general but recently come to the conclusion I kinda want to wear a watch again, mostly just for formal occasions and partly cos I want an excuse to get summat knocked up by 31trum but have no need of wallet/belt/electronic toy case.
Any recommendations for a sub-£100(excluding strap if needs be) clean and simple watch. Don't really know or care the difference between mechanisms, don't dig multiple dials, spinny bezals or any of the rest of that jazz. Just something basic that won't need money dropped on it regularly for servicing etc.
Can't sort anything immediately as the tax man needs to be sated first but will be looking more seriously in a couple of months if anyone wants to offload anything on me.
Will now sit down and read this thread start to finish and no doubt come to the conclusion that I need some rare eastern block unobtainium that'll cripple my accounts. -

^ lovely but wont work with Murts' straps.

Ahr didnt realise that. Dieter Rams design, cant go wrong. Everyone I've met thats seen it is like nice watch mate - doesn't cost a fortune either!
The seals on the dial arent great can steam the face up quite easily if its humid.

V nice, that's the style of face I had in mind. For some reason the idea of a murts strap is as important as the watch tho

Obaku Harmony Men's Quartz Watch V143G CIRN with Leather Strap: Amazon.co.uk: Watches
I have one almost identical to this. They had issues with a bad batch of crystals, cracking, but replaced mine free of charge, so I'm happy.
I've also got a couple of Sekonda ones, which are cheap as chips, and actually (ocasionally) quite nice.

Whilst not the prettiest watch (imo), this kind of thing is pretty set and forget:
Seiko SNE097P1
Solar powered and quartz so reliable time with a large enough lug width to suit something Murts would knock up. Plus you can usually find it for about £80 all in.

I love Seiko, love the Pepsi dial style divers watches they do
-

Murts can also redo the straps on those and custom modify the faces/bezels. The man has skillz.

^ o rly? Had no idea such things were possible. I've heard dark mutterings of his precision hammer but thought that was for battery replacement/repairs.
Whole new world of things to geek out over. Yay. -
• #6222
Yeah - he redid my Pepsi Seiko diver. Looks lovely and cannot wait to get it back underwater at some point.

Can I get a seiko diver in all black? - case, face, hands etc? Impractical but stealthy...
-
• #6225
not really, it tends to rub off, unless it's done (PVD) properly.
Cheers for the feedback mate.
I've always had a thing against leather straps (sorry Murts!) for reasons of durability but they are of course easily replaceable.
I really like the feel of the "try hard" one...the ceramic case and strap feels great to wear. It costs nearly £700 more though. If I had to choose between the two, it would be the leather strapped Milano.
If I look at the bigger picture I just need to get over my atomic accuracy hang up. There are so many stunning watches both new and vintage that I could buy for £500 to £1000.
I think I must be a watch chav as well as a bike chav.
