What time is it? Watches and horology

I've got GW-5600-2 and all the reports of how bad the neg display is had me worried but I find it really legible apart from in low light but a flick of the wrist and the back light turns on

The newer neg displays do look a step up in clarity though

Was confused earlier in the week when people were saying they run out of battery, mine gets left in a windowless corridor for weeks and when I pick it up it wakes back up and just works

Is that not quite expensive to do?

Idk if it's different with that model, but I thought all displays had polarised filters, and so the only difference between +ive and -ive is a 90° rotation of the film.

Some people prefer the old EL backlight to LED, worth checking the difference as both version 5610 are still available

Casio UK sell all parts so you could get the negative module and resell the positive

I had no idea, but I've just found that mod described, that's super interesting.

Could be tricky on solar squares tho - the solar panel is glued to the glass so dismantling the module may be different/harder

Hmm the old light is definitely nicer, I'll see what it's like in real life before thinking about swapping

the new U version has the current time displayed in all modes and you can swap the MM/DD to DD/MM too tho...

All this G-shock chat has got to be a sign for me to finally get a GA-2100SKE-7AER SKELETON. I’ve wanted one for ages and I’ve always talked myself out of it. However these have just been delivered….it’s fate.

Yeah time in the left eye, calculator in the right and you can use the arms to play their keyboards.

I dunno I've seen enough videos where the expert is like "you can clearly tell this is a replica because the top line of the crown is slightly too thick" or similar. I can see the appeal of them up to a price but beyond maybe £200 you're not getting a better movement just the styling and I ain't paying many hundreds for something that doesn't keep time as well as a budget seiko
