Lol. FWIW I’m not anti rep. But claiming it’s indistinguishable from the real thing is hilarious. I’ve seen the macro photos of Noob reps versus genuine Submariner’s. There are clear differences. Both externally and especially at the movement level. Yeah, the rep’s rotor might look real, but once you take the rotor off, it’s immediately apparent.
And yes, I stand by my point. This ‘real world saving’ is a nonsense.

There’s another company that made rep better than noob, I forget the name (think I link it here) but was quite impressed that they cloned everything right down to the movement.
Only difference (beside those that can tell)? 50 metres WR.

Fair enough, I’ve seen articles claiming things both ways (although I’m not sure noob is top-tier any more) but not compared for myself. Some of them claim to clone the Rolex sub movement…
I’d like one to wind people up but not @ £500!The car thing is a tortuous analogy anyway but I get that mentally one will never be the other, regardless of physical similarity.

Clean perhaps? I've thought about getting a GMT Pepsi for lols, it's basically unobtainable so it'd be a way of scratching that itch, but ultimately it doesn't sit with me from an ethical standpoint.

Okay. Remember maybe 15-20 years ago when there was this company selling g body kits for a Toyota MR2 that made it look just like a Ferrari F355? I remember seeing it on top gear as a kid. It’s the same as that. It’s all good till you peak under the hood. Then you realize you have something that is not even in the same league. ‘Cloning a movement’ doesn’t mean it’s the same at all. Like. Not even close.

Damn. That shit good 🙃

Literally can't see my dive minutes because of a cat meme.
Perfect.

The car thing is a tortuous analogy
The correct analogy is with something like a pair of fake jeans or a handbag.

The point of a clone movement in a rep is so that bonkers modders can throw genuine rolex parts in it and it still works. There was a guy who bought a real cerachom insert for his GMT for close to a G then went down a rabbit hole trying to get a genuine movement and date wheel. It was about 3 grand all in and he reckoned it was indistinguishable unless you took a loupe to the rehaut. I mean that’s pretty bonkers but I take my hat off to the guy too

What i don’t understand is this - if you believe you can buy something with the same production quality as a Rolex for under a grand, why bother with a Rolex copy? Why not buy something else for under a grand?
-
• #60063
I'm guessing because you enjoy the design or whatever the perception of owning the real thing is

How does Watches World provide new watches at below RRP?
-
• #60065
Or furniture, fake Eames lounge chairs or series 7 chairs.
-
• #60066
But there's something much more complex in watches...

• #60067
Beacuse expensive watches for 90% of people are about status
-
• #60068
Because you love design but it’s too expensive or unobtainable
-
• #60069
I don't think they're new, they're a preowned dealer.
-
• #60070
Ok, I suppose just a coincidence that the (admittedly only two) watches I've looked at which they have were/are new/unworn.
-
• #60071
I think you're underestimating the skill and knowledge depth required to make a high end handbag end-to-end, because the process has become so refined.
-
• #60072
Exactly.
While I wouldn't buy a sub, if I had the spare cash I'd definitely buy a exact replica of a 1016 for $500-1k, because I like the way it looks and the history, aura, and other BS but can't spend $15k or $20k, or whatever they probably cost now. Its just a ludicrous amount of money for an old steel watch that in all honesty is 99% about the shape of those three lovely Arabic numerals.

• #60073
I dunno, maybe it’s just my reading of reptime but most of the users buy fakes and pass them off as the real thing for clout.
-
• #60074
Ok, I suppose just a coincidence that the (admittedly only two) watches I've looked at which they have were/are new/unworn.
It's probably a mix of pre-owned stuff and new stuff that's being cleared out for whatever reason.

But a lot of expensive watches are not remarkable designs, unlike an Eames, an E-type, a Beogram 4002, a PH lamp etc?
pls no
