Looks a bit like the black bits are made of plastic in the pictures

thank you all for your helpful advice :)

No, I knew they had a car site, not sure how long the watch site has been running...
I have never sold a watch anywhere, always been a buyer... Although the wife does seem to be pretty determined that we need a new kitchen, so maybe I might have to let a couple of pieces go :(

Totally agree.. and a couple of other more obscure vintage Speedy's

Bulgari Aluminium is a strangely nice looking watch....
Yes, but the straps seem to be designed for people with strangely angular wrists:

A few pages back someone posted something that seemed like a great allrounder
Here it is.

A second one or sell & re-buy?

thats grim, as grim as the monogrammed blouson sailing jacket (with some signal flag logo on the back), pink shorts and cardigan over the shoulders that go with it.

How do the flags work?
(That was this forum, right?) -

Yes. Yes it was. B^)

I must've missed it... What was the conclusion?

Ah cheers. That's pretty similar to the Seiko 5 I'm replacing and which I found a bit on the small side (even on my tiny wrists!).

Have you looked at the bigger seiko field watch. The lugs aren't that long, so although it's 43mm it wears fine.
Edit SNZG09 43mm

That’s automatic isn’t it? I’m after a quartz (ideally solar, like an eco drive). I do like those though, and it’s about the size I’m after. I had in mind a desk-diver, although I think the citizen I mentioned just about nudges in to ‘actual diver’, arguably?

It's one of those classic feature oversell areas, where all the cheaper* watches seem to focus on giving theoretical benefits to sell themselves.
Wrong end of the budget, but that's why I like the Oris 65, where they've had the balls to not worry about a pointless certification and focus on keeping it slimmer.
I'd have thought a 10-12mm thick quartz steel dive style watch around 40mm wide would be a no brainern for someone to make. 100m water resistant, semi-tough, and not shit looking.
*actually not just cheap watches.

Or maybe I just need to search harder

that last Casio has a fake bezel, it doesn't move
The duro is a good watch though for the money

I had looked at those - I can’t put my finger on it but I just can’t like the look of them. The duro is almost exactly what I’m after, but i have a feeling it’s just slightly too big for my wrist.
I like the look of those citizens. A bit less full on utilitarian than the promaster eco drive divers
