Anyone recommend a good jewellers or watch repair places in London?
My Grandma gave me Grandpa's watch, its a Certina Automatic blue motion. The adjustment knob thingy seems to be broken - you can pull it out to change the time, but can't change the date. Want to take it somewhere to see how much it costs to repair.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
It's possible it was made before quick-set date was the norm. I have a 1964 Omega Constellation that doesn't have quick-set. What you have to do is wind the hands back and forth between 9 and 12. This will change the date much more quickly than going around and around, bit of a faff but give it a go.

Have just replaced the strap and fixed a new bezel onto my 1964 Connie Pie-Pan. Genuine 561calibre for the movement geeks:

Cool, works just like you said. Bit of a faff, but then it must be quite old. Thanks

Ha! No problem, guessed as much. The Blue Ribbon line dates back to 1961 for Certina so looks like you've probably got an early one before quick-set. Post up a couple of pics!

I went into the Omega shop at Westfield yesterday, just for a goosey, and saw the Planet Ocean on their mesh strap. The clasp on this thing is huge, very robust. Overall very nice but very shiny.

i guess this is a good place to ask this, but my grandad gave me a luminor marina watch many years ago. it is the version with the automatic mechanical movement - however it seems to have stopped. when i shake it a lot the hands turn for a minute or so...then it dies again.
does anyone know if there is a simple fix. or if its fixable at all? i have no box/manual or anything to go by and im not 100% sure what model it is as there seem to be hundres.

^ It quite likely just needs a service. Any idea how old it is and when it was last serviced? Any automatic 'should' be serviced every 6 to 10 years on average although I've had them go for much longer without, just depends.

Anyone of a shop in London that stocks NATO straps? Would like to offer up my watch to various colour straps rather than Internet guesswork. Cheers

Don't use this enough so should offer it here first.
Lovely Seiko Chrono 6139 on a Di Modell strap.
Great condition cosmeticially - was refurbed before I bought it a 10 months ago. Crystal clear and unscratched.
'Scuse the crappy phone pics.
Keeps great time whilst on the wrist, but loses 4 mins or thereabouts overnight on the bedside table.
£80 sound fair?

Are you able to keep it ticking over in any other position, eg. crown-up, backplate-up, etc.
Sometimes you can persuade mechanical watches that have been sitting for a while to run by repeating this procedure a few times until they keep running consistently.

I'm probably stating the obvious, but it sounds like the mainspring has fully unwound, so shaking it won't wind it very much. Pull out the crown to the first position and give it 10 turns clockwise (better check google for your model). Assuming it has an automatic movement, manually winding the spring should give it enough juice to keep going again by itself when on your wrist.

I have a Steinhart Ocean 1 Black w/ ceramic bezel for sale.
It's not even had the plastic wrappers or tag taken off so is in brand new condition. I'd been on the waiting list for 8 weeks when one came up on eBay. No sooner had the eBay one arrived, my one from Steinhart shipped. As i'd already worn the eBay one, i'm selling the brand new one.
It comes with all the box and papers and a 2 year warranty.
Looking for exactly what I paid which is £330.
Will get some pics of the actual watch etc for anyone who's interested but it looks like this:
