  • Yes, it has every “ah, I see you’re a man of culture as well” dog whistle in the book. Vintage (Leica?) camera, handmade oxfords etc etc

  • Red gold / salmon dial already sold out. People do love a salmon dial, don’t they.

  • First G-Shock Thursday.

Took me a while to set up!

My reservations about it not being super-dooper utilitarian and practical are right. The little screen is tiny and made less legible by the negative LCD. That basically removes most of your typical digital watch functions even if they are present. Very much style lead.

But that brings me on to what is great. It's a really good looking watch in an excellent size and weight. Much better looking once on the wrist, than pictures or even just holding.

I'm not sure if I can articulate it properly, but basically it's a smashing all round watch that can replace most of my other watches. Still feel like I need a proper (to me) G-Shock.

  • Also the white bezel text is grey and much less visible irl.

  • black rhodium dial

Looks great, but is it me or do none of the other colours work due to the chapter rings?

  • Hard to tell, isn’t it. Could just be how it’s been photographed, but the chapter rings on the gold plated dials do look like they might jump out at you and draw a lot of attention.

Nice GA-2100 by the way, I was also surprised at how well the shape wears.

  • Despite the hype, the image, the nonsense and everything, that dial caught me everytime

  • Prefer green on black 🖤. 😎

  • Cheers.

I think the weight and strap design play a big part.

  • Still feel like I need a proper (to me) G-Shock.

5610 - It's been on my wrist 80% of the time for the past 3 years.

  • Lovely. Hard to better.

  • That's a worry I have too, especially considering it's used for payment and the train system here, one heavy handed tap in on the subway and it's smashed.

  • The Paulin Neo is back in stock for anyone that was interested.

Looks like a new orange dial version (or at least a darker yellow than the old one was).

  • Why they tryna charge me VAT tho. Was really interested in these - but I shouldn't have to pay VAT :-( First world problems, but still.

  • :(

Small business things isn’t it. I assume they just haven’t got their act together for international shipping.

  • That's what I'm thinking. I saw a almost all black one, but with a +ive LCD, that I liked just need to dig up the ref number. Or just buy the standard one off ebay to try it out.

  • You might be thinking of the DW-5600E. It’s like the M5610 but without solar charging or the multi-band 6 radio sync. I much prefer the 5610 for those reasons but there are many more variants and colours of the non-solar 5600.

There is also the GW-B5600 line which is the “upgraded” 5600 that has Bluetooth along with solar and radio sync. This is the line that the metal cased models (GMW-B5000) are based on. Most of these are reversed LCD but currently there is a positive LCD version in a resin case in the range, the GW-B5600MG-1ER:

  • There’s also the 5700, which is a 5600 with a circular bezel. It’s not a core model these days but they do limited colourways.

I, er, might have bought one of these recently.

    Yes, I need a G-Shock intervention.

  • It's the GW-5000U-1JF I'm thinking of.

(or more accurately whatever it was called before the LED upgrade because I'm not dropping $300 on something with a brighter light)

  • That’s not a basic model, I believe that is a fancier one with the updated 5610 type module but a screw-down caseback like the very first G-Shocks had. Also a steel inner case and made in Japan. Hence the price.

  • GST.. My view is that you only need one G. 5610 is my favourite. Casioak wears well but not particularly legible. I'm not a fan of the analogue models for that reason. My wife wears one she bought me!

  • 5610 is one of the greatest watches of all time

  • Agreed.

If you think about the "essence" of a Rolex (as marketed by the brand), it's that it's "the best" quality - accuracy, waterproof, etc.

    The 5610 does that:

    • Tells the time and date clearly day and night
    • Perpetual (date, but also battery)
    • Water resistant as you need
    • Robust
