Anyone fancy doing some shopping for me?
My mum is after a watch for my dad for their 40th wedding anniversary. She's got about £1,500. Not against a second hand watch but probably after new.
He's already got the following:
- Junghans Max Bill - white face
- Tag Heur Carrera Twin Time - black face
- Christopher Ward C63 Sealander GMT - white face
Any thoughts? Would be nice to have something red on the face as it's their Ruby anniversary.

If you are open to (good) quartz then the Longines Conquest VHP has red tipped second hand and markers in white, blue or black face, also a GMT version in budget with more red

Thanks guys - I'd seen the diver @ChainBreaker posted before - it's on the list. Not sure the big crown is his style but that's up to my mum so also goes on the list. Not considered quartz but also not against it so will share that too.
Opinions on Yema?
These two are 10-15% off list at the moment and I quite like both:

Really like the bronze Yemas. Look like they'd wear well. Oris big crown is classy too.

the company certainly has heritage but I recently read a not-so-glowing review
https://twobrokewatchsnobs.com/yema-watches-review-yachtingraf-heritage/I think my favourite of theirs is the quartz space watch
https://en.yema.com/products/yema-spacegraf-zero-g-steel-black-ymhf2019-aaI like their Skindiver too but it's too expensive for the movement it uses

Lovely but outside of the budget unfortunately.

I really like the look of the steel one, you sent me down a Yema GMT rabbit hole and I've emerged thinking that a Timex Q would scratch the itch...

You can pick it up cheaper from European stores but I guess Brexit has probably screwed that.

A different option is a nice Seiko, not Grand Seiko level but with a fancy enamel dial

I have nothing to add except to say I really enjoy these vicarious shopping investigations and their results

The "plum" fumé enamel dial on the Anordain Model 1 is really lovely:
Unfortunately out of budget.
The "standard" red dial one (still a beautiful vitreous / "grand feu" enamel dial) is in budget though:
https://anordain.com/collections/model-1-all/products/post-office-red
However Anordain have just moved to a batch release model so unfortunately the lead time is a bit unknown, and likely to be more than 2-3 months.
I think an Anordain is a lovely gift, the packaging is really thoughtful and they can engrave the caseback for you. It might be worth reaching out to Lewis or Erlend there to see if something might be possible, they are very nice people.

That's insanely lovely. Wow

That's a great shout.
So far, she's pretty keen on the bronze Yema but I'll definitely pitch these.
Anniversary is at the end of September so there's time... -

It could do with a new acrylic but I love my Seiko 5 6119-7130 because of its square case and different face placements. It keeps time well too considering it’s from the 70’s.

Wife is on a plane to Glasgow right now. WhatsApp message about that plum dial waiting for her when she lands!

😂
Edit - I see on their site they do have a retailer in Glasgow but no idea if they'll have any stock. Anordain themselves seem totally sold out right now.

Good point! I hope they do. She'll be visiting with somebody who is a Glasgow based ceramacist with an interest in Japanese enamelling techniques and who hadn't heard of them so would be really interesting for her to see one.

Yeah definitely, all their enamellers seem to have come from the jewellery courses at Glasgow and Edinburgh and they’re interesting artists in their own right.
The fumé dials are, I believe, a method that they’ve invented and developed, where instead of overlaying a darker tint around the edges the gradient effect is achieved by using a domed base plate, so that more of the enamel (ie melted glass) collects at the edges and so becomes less translucent:

Hmm. Red dials are nice off the wrist but unless he’s a collector it’s possible that such a strong colour is too out there for his liking
PVD or LSD?
