Can you set the location and anything else without an app on them? I'd guess the watch is probably going to last longer than the app.

You can set the tide location from a long list of ports/surfing spots on the watch itself but the app allows you to set it to literally anywhere (lat/long). Or, allegedly it does - I’ve not managed to get it to work on my phone.

Everything else can be set on the watch AFAICT.

Well, I've just tried reinstalling the app and it seems to be working now. It needs to update the watch though (estimated time: 10 minutes). More on this as it happens.

Yeah, seems to work just fine. There's a huge number of locations to pick from a map, or you can input manual location and tide data yourself and sync it to the watch.

But from the watch itself it's like a standard (non-connected) G-Lide, you just have the internal list of surfing spots to choose from. Unless you want the activity tracking stuff to sync to your phone or need a tide location that isn't available I think you can skip the app/bluetooth stuff. I hadn't connected it until now.

I saw the news that they’re updating the 5000 series G-Shocks including the best watch in the world (the GW-M5610) - plus point, you can change the date format and set the seconds on the countdown timer, but sadly it’s the end of the EL backlight. They’re going to LED like the Bluetooth models. Sucks IMHO, I much prefer the even blue indiglo-type lighting to the white LED front light.

Celebration with a new watch day. Happy to finally complete this week. Date night.

Great stuff, I'm really happy with mine even though I paid a slight premium buying from Japan, got away with no custom fees though!

Agree with you about the blue indiglo, the white is great but just not quite right.
