  • Anyone here want a watch like the one pictured? It's a W10, manual-wind which keeps very good time. Pretty much as-new. It was lying around in my parent's house. Strap not included.

£40 collected, either from near Hackney Road, or somewhere else that suits.

I can email photos from my phone.

  • that's quite nice

  • Dibs!

I'm working near Liverpool Street, would be ideal if we could meet near there.

  • What time are you free? I'm only down the road, so could swing by.

    PM me if you like.

Do nanos transmit to wireless headphones? Otherwise that just kinda sucks as having a cable that can snag on stuff and pull the ipod off the magnets would just be really annoying.

Very cool piece of work though. Like the idea of implants for practical purposes. I remember years ago, (on tomorrows world i think) some nutty professor implanting a fairly sizable circuit board in his arm that operated all the doors in his lab.

Sorry for posting the watch thread without actually adding anything, I lurk occasionally but haven't worn a watch since I was about 12 so my opinions here are null and void...

  • Well this came in the post today

My first automatic, really pleased with it so far. In time I think I'll get a tan leather strap.

  • Except that the 5 ring instructions are wrong...

This is a perfect example of internet fail - someone posts up duff information and then everyone copies it.

  • this may help...

    NATO Strap instructions
    ZULU 3 ring Strap instructions
    ZULU 5 ring Strap instructions

That for me? It doesn't have a nato strap on yet, just a regular strap made out of webbing

  • What's the best way to clean the inside (wrist side) of a leather strap? Cheers :)

  • saddle soap

  • saddle soap

Thanks chap, I don't have any Saddle Soap so think I might just try trusty old soap and water. Hopefully this will remove that smudged 'off colour' look the inside of straps get after a while.

  • That's more like it, none of this pony Seiko cobblers!

  • I've followed this thread keenly. I've always worn a wrist watch and have always loved my watches but never have I looked into what others like or what is revered or egarded as mechanically superior or prestigious or what have you. My watch for the last 8 years has been a Casio OC-500. To me it is a nice midway between heft and subtlety. It;s affordable and very reliable. I would like to invest in a new watch with similar characteristics. Quartz. Chunk. Reliable. And if possible from a lesser known but reputable maker. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Fanny! He should gone the whole hog and got a sun dial embedded.

  • Yes. Edifice.

  • Can any watch buyers offer a little advice please?
I've just brought a watch via EBay that is in the US. I'm happy that it is legit as it has original papers & box etc. Is there anything I ought to be aware of with the shipping? Other than getting it insured for the full value and using a reputable courier? Will I be liable for any customs payments?

    All info appreciated. Thanks.

  • If its a vacheron constantin then get insurance. Otherwise just chill.

  • You are liable for customs charges, so if it's valuable, expect to be caught. I've had a few things which slipped through, a couple with major charges, seems to be just chance whether they pick it up or not.

  • It's a Heuer, one of the re editions from the early 2000's of a 1964 watch. £650 - so not mega money, but a lot for me!

  • If you get them to put it in an unmarked envelope, and as it's not new, you might get away with it, although I don't know how this will work with insurance. Maybe get him to lie on the customs form and say you already own it and left in in the US etc.?

  • Depends on your appetite for risk- can you afford to lose the £650?

I'd mark it at full value and get the chap to also mark it as "warranty/repair", mainly to see if that works- you never know.

  • Can you even be charged duty on a vintage watch?
