And the market for quartz luxury is pretty soft

Watches generally don’t hold their value. Rolex and Patek are pretty much the only exceptions, apart from certain desirable rarities like calibre 321 speedmasters.

And at the other end of the market you have the short run timefactors nd Helsonwatches that sell for above original asking price. It's the stuff in the middle that suffers most from depreciation.

So, it doesn’t get much better than Grand Seiko, when it comes to value for money. Especially, second hand.

Yeah, rarity/scarcity is the main driver across the board really. Any normal series model is unlikely to appreciate.
Look at Lange prices - incredible watches, loads of intrinsic value but unless it’s a special limited edition, the demand just isn’t there and their prices collapse as soon as you walk out of the boutique.

You can get a nearly-new Lange Saxonia in the region of £10k, that looks like amazing value next to a PP Calatrava IMO.

Yeah, I bet. That’s some deep waters though, too deep for me.

Anyone know about pocket watches ?
I have an old pocket watch that gets handed down to the eldest male in each generation of the family and I’d like to get it working. No idea on how much it’d be though...hands turn but I cannot wind it up.

This seems to be the only option over the last two months.. I did wear an auto the other day and felt like a real dandy gentleman for my zoom call.
Bought new in 99 when my first student loan landed.

Nice. After having my Magrette fixed under warranty and wearing it fairly constantly, the minute hand has come loose - just after I ordered a new orange Zulu strap for it from them as well. In fairness Magrette said straight away they’ll send a new one (watch as opposed to minute hand) over. @pullingteth, I know you irl don’t I, Kwcc, Cathy says hi!

That Batgirl GMT at that price is very interesting to see. Lot of price softening seems to be happening already even on the "hot" sports Rolexes.
