I don't like them...

Nice one, good to hear.

Noted, cheers!

I’m surprised they don’t, they’re not shy of direct Rolex copies/“homages”. E.g. think I’ve seen an Explorer II one.
-
• #33281
So which particular Rolex is the domed explorer sub an homage too?
-
• #33282
And then they'd make it dinner plate size and ruin it all
-
• #33283
From the fact it was designed side by side with a 1016, it is a 1016 homage. Note homage and not copy. It's also a design progression from the first Smith's Everest(nod to Explorer and Smiths Deluxe) re release meaning it has taken in some features of its own. It's somewhat a nod to the modern explorer 1, the 1016 and it's own watch.

Sorry, to be clear I was talking about the Gnomon/Steinhart- are you, or is your comment specific to the Smiths?
-
• #33285
Was talking about the Smiths.
Zeno Explorer is another popular 1016 homage.

Rolex made a small number of 5513s with explorer dials (e.g. https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/rolex-submariner-dial-auctioned-uk-from-original-owner ), but I don't know if they did this with other sub models as well.
ION, I've had my first (minor) ding on my 36mm Everest, so now I can relax and accept the patina...

Thanks. I can’t decide if I would like that Steinhart or not. Which probably means not.
-
• #33288
Well it’s basically an explorer dial Sub isn’t it, but they’ve retro-d it up to the max. Not all their watches are bites of specific references but a lot of them are.
Edit: as thrustvector said

Thanks to inchpincher for the great box. Now I’m pondering how to fill it. To me it looks fantastic right now.
Do what i did, dig around the bottom draw and fill it with all the old watches that are now irrelevant post Speedmaster

Bit harsh on the digital G-Shock and the PADI Samurai.

Yeah, the samurai and g-shock are the choice for anything near water. Although the samurai is a bit of a weighty thing so I'm looking at this for slimness and for not having to keep wound:

If you need any internet buying validation, I think it is bang on, and other than the ti diver their best watch.

Filth!
Reference?

I think this may be a frankenwatch, or a prototype. Curious, I looked at every Vintage Heuer site I could find and this doesn't exist on any of them. There's a Tag Heuer from the 80s/90s that looks relatively similar but doesn't have blued hands and has Roman Numerals at 12 and 6. But yeah.. this one.. not seeing it anywhere.

• #33299
Good plan! But I’d rather not take away from the look of the Speedmaster 😁

Similar to the 734.508 but yeah, can't find another like it.
Ha. That would annoy my Omega chum! Ejay May disagree! 😁😁
