  • Bought the Hamilton w/ box, no papers from eBay so the warranty option is out. I'm going to drop the local dealer a line regardless and see what they say.

The seller has 100+ transactions w/ 100% positive feedback on eBay so I'm doubting he knew it was a lemon, he said it was bought in Sept '17.

Bit disappointing as I've had it less than three weeks. Of all the used watch purchases I've made I didn't think this one would kick me in the dick. I really like it though and I got it for a v. good price and it was mint (visually anyway) so if I can get it sorted for less than a tonne I'll be happy. Maybe Hamilton will do something on the basis of a gesture of good will, to be fair you would expect more from a 700 quid watch after a year and a bit.

  • This is correct. I had the same issue with a Khaki field.

  • New watch day.....

  • That's lovely. Where did you find that?

  • On Chrono24. Spent ages looking for a GMT.
In the process, discovered Union Glashutte and sort of liked their new GMTs, but saw this and really fell for it due to the crown. Took me a month to pull the trigger, but I did and am very happy.
The seller had a good history of selling far more expensive items (400+ sales of PPs etc) so felt quite confident with that.

  • Your dad is a legend.

  • It does sound like there’s been some water ingress and the seal is compromised. A couple of large bags of silica gel with just the watch head, crown out, face down in a ziplock bag for a week or two will get the components dry. Otherwise take the caseback off and leave it in a warm dry place for a few days. Take care, “warm and dry” is not good for leather.

Perhaps the caseback seal was mis-seated or damaged if the previous owner opened it up or the crown seal was somehow compromised. This is relatively unlikely to be a manufacturing fault IMO.

  • Very fair point re. unlikely it being a manufacturing fault. @Jonte saying it happened to his Khaki Field as well left me curious. Have it in a ziplock bag with rice in as didn't have silica to hand.

Would new seals - paired with a pressure test be the worst case scenario do you reckon?

  • cheap timex. how do i get the battery out?

  • In that case, I'd try @freddo method if Hamilton offer no joy.

  • Pop off the plastic cover (should be held by spring clips).

  • nice that

  • If you send that back to Hamilton without a valid warranty card I guarantee they will say it needs a service and charge you.

  • its out, shame I dont have a replacement - CR2016 not CR2032 as I'd assumed.....

  • LOLex on today

  • Lovely LOLex!

  • Love how rugged and legible this is.

  • Neat. Better than the Smiths one IMO. Gone classic myself today.

  • Swung by the watchmaker, he said he’s still not happy with the Omega subsecond (cal.30), hopes to have it ready some time next week. I hope he gets a high standard from the movement, without any insane costs.

  • My wrist decoration for today

  • Got home from work today and found this waiting for me on the doormat. Loving the font, colour and clarity. Would like it to be 5mm bigger. Gonna stick it on a olive Nato I think.
