Good evening all,
I have been pondering why the Speedmaster left me so underwhelmed and I think I have the answer - a cheap Sekonda which I bought on a flight to wear as a daily wearer on holidays some time ago.

On other news, a local jewellers let me try on an old Speedmaster and it did nothing for me. The jeweller is disposing if a deceased persons collection of over 60 watches and there were a lot of Russian watches - one was absolutely huge - a divers watch which claimed to go to 800m.
Unfortunately none of the watches were to my taste - the older ones looked like ladies watches and some had curved glass - they looked to ‘funky’ for my tastes. An American make beginning with G? Nice to see so many old watches but, again, disappointed that none worked for me.The search goes on ....

Anyone know anything about pocket watches? For some reason my dad wants one for his birthday. I know nothing about them, not sure if he knows much either.

A watch that looks nothing at all like a speed master.........
-
• #29437
I think it is a bit similar in looks - very broadly speaking.
I’m still thinking of refurbing my fathers Omega. The local jewellers can replace the glass and change the strap - keeping the Omega buckle. I didn’t ask for a coat though. Any ideas how much it should be? -

difficult to say without seeing it, really.
We don't like just changing the glass unless has been serviced recently. -

Pics were posted further back in the thread.

The strap is odd but may be because of age - it is heavy leather and does not suit the watch at all.

Having never heard of the NH88 movement I went and read that TZ thread, what a saga it is sourcing parts. Glad I haven't been waiting six years for this to come to fruition.

Spotted this on IG today, colour me surprised... Franchisee incentive apparently... I didn't even post the really ugly one...

There's a bunch of pretty ugly Saudi military branded ones knocking around at the moment.

Window shopping for some wrist jewelry, to mark a significant birthday at the end of the year.
£500 budget seems appropriate: if only I had £5,000 to spunk on a watch.
I have no need of a dress watch; I'm OK with vintage, but don't have the expertise to dodge a lemon; not overly fussed about size, but I lean (don't lean) towards the more beefy end of the spectrum.
Either way, I'm after something with "presence".
Answers on a postcard to the usual address.
TIA

I don't think the Domino ones were originally produced like that by Rolex, while the Saudi crest ones are. Not 100% sure.
-
• #29446
I’d rather associate myself with Dominos than the Saudi Military
-
• #29447
I'd rather go to war with Saudi.

I’d be looking at Steinhart, Seiko and Timefactors. How do feel about dive watches?

And you can get a cracker steinhart on fleabay!
Get thee behind me...
