What time is it? Watches and horology

I always thought those AP's looked awful but when I saw one in real life for the first time I really quite like them.

I thought the same about the Nautilus.

I had a good look at the Junghans. A bit like the Nomos to me really. I like the looks of them but totally not my style.

Just keep an eye out for vintage DeVilles IMO. Fleabay.nl might be worth a shot.

I like my watches to tell the date but it doesn't look right to me on that AP.

The finish is holding up on this.

I want a watch that is understated, quite classic, that will still look good when I am at the end of my life, and one that has some elegance to the mechanism.

How about Habring²?

Low volume, Austrian, all in-house. Possibly the smallest watch manufacture in the world, and the prices are very good for what you get.

If it's to last to the end of your days, I'd consider Dornbluth and some customisation on the movement.

I liked the idea of people thinking it's a quartz.

I didn't realise they were all in-house now. I'm sure they used to be heavily modified ETA, where he'd created a clever semi-modular system across all the watches.

The Royal Oak is amazing IMO. Chrono feature messes up the cleanliness of it.

It's fascinating how they machine the face of those things.
